Anyone know how accurate the readings in the DIC are for average MPG, and
gallons used for 2006 model year Chevy trucks?
Steven - 14 Nov 2007 03:28 GMT
very accurate, i reset fuel used every time i fill up and the next i fill up
i look at the gallons on the pump and look at the gallons on the dic they
are very close, if you want to see if mpg is correct do this, reset the
average economy and one of the trips when you fill up then the next time you
fill up divide how many gallons into the miles on the trip it should be
close to average economy mine is 06 sierra

I've only driven 100 miles since I bought it used and filled the tank for
the first time. The fuel guage is at 3/4 full and it's the 25 gallon tank.
According to the DIC I'm at about 16 MPG.  That is mostly mountain and city
driving.  When I filled up for the first time, reset all the counters and
hit the highway it gradually climbed to 20 MPG at 65 MPH, then gradually
dropped to15 MPG as I drove up and down a winding mountain road, then has
slowely come back up the current 16 with an estimated 60/40 city/highway
driving.

Not Ed but just did about 3600miles on my '06 Dmax---almost all highway with
only a few hundred lbs in the box--averaged just over 21mpg running a mild
tune!

Thats why I went to the d-max---and when I pull my bbq trailer(20'--9Klbs)
mileage drops to about 14mpg with a kinda light foot!

I returned from a 1000 mile round trip last night.  I had my camper mounted
and averaged 15.5 MPG for the total trip which consisted of mostly highway
driving, several hours of slow dirt road driving and getting stuck in
traffic for about 30 minutes because of road construction.  With cruise set
at 60 MPH on flat terrain, 70F temperature, 3,000' altitude, the DIC showed
as high as 18 MPG.

A total of 5 fill-ups since I bought it. When I compared the DIC to real
gallons used and real MPG, they were within 1%-2%.  Pretty impressive.

Can't say about the 06 model, but my 04 is fairly accurate on both
gallons used and mpg figures. I've kept track of all my fuel purchases
since the truck was new. I've compared actual to indicated several
times, all very close, my last fillup the DIC indicated I used 27.6
gal, the pump agreed, down to the 10th. I do try to use the same
routine every time I fill the tank to keep it all consistent.
