Friend of mine has a 97 Burb, 1500, 4X4, 350 (5.7L) The other day he
started it and put it in gear. The truck felt like it had a rubber drive
shaft. Engine would respond but the transmission was slipping. And the gear
position indicator was not displaying what gear it was in. He shut it off
and restarted
it and the same thing. The next day he started it and the gear indicator was
on, and the truck drove fine.
Any ideas?

Had the same thing happen on a 2001 Dually..........had it towed was told it
was PROBABLY a rebuild (6 Speed Allison), Shop called back two days
later.....................MANIFOLD PRESSURE SWITCH, transmission
service.................TOTAL BILL one tenth the cost of a rebuild.
I was thrilled
