how does one work and what are symotoms if its not?

If your running tbi its on top of the throttle body, if your running tpi its
the round thing with a vaccum hose on top and a fuel rail below it. It
mantains fuel pressure. If its dead you will have a hard time starting. It
will take the engine about 3 times to start.
