My 2004 Sierra Z71 has 28,000 miles on it and GMC has recommended I pay
about $2100 for an extended warranty. What are the best options out there
for extending the warranty beyond 36,000 miles since I drive a lot.

Greetings,

Go to your local bank or credit union and see what programs/companies they
offer.  I found you can do much better starting here than from the dealer.

Cheers - Jonathan

the dealer always wants to sell you an extended warranty. I think you
would be better served to keep your money.

ive bought extended warranties but only after the dealer dropped the price
by 20-30 %   Also, ive declined the extended warranty because i decided to
gamble and take my chance.  Ive had two extended warranties on new cars in
my life and am in the red when considering cost vs benefit.  extended
warranties are like paying to have 100 deductible vs. 1000 deductible with
insurance

last winter, i declined an extended warranty on a 98 suburban with 93k
miles....only $1500 and covered most everything for three years except the
ABS.  Hell, a rebuilt engine is about $2800 and a rebuilt xmission is same.

remember that they are making big money on this and is no different than a
casino where the house always wins but once and awhile someone takes home a
jackpot.   If you want to pay $2100 for peace of mind or knowing  that you
will have a fixed operating cost then get the thing otherwise dont and put
the money in the bank.  My two cents says to keep the money.
