02 1500, got up energy to change the cabin air filter this weekend. Instructions downloaded from the internet mentioned 3 screws to remove bottom cover, whilst standing on my head and wondering why it would not come down, found the 4th screw. Removed the filter cover and could not believe the crud that was present on/in/near the filters. Sucked all the remaining area clean and reinstalled new filters and had first time luck installing the screw above the transmission hump. Much more flow rate now and smells >better! When I changed mine in my '99, I did not completely remove the screw above the hump. With the other screws removed and the hump screw loose, the cover just slides out of the way. HTH Autumn I threw the hump screw away, made my life easier! I throw away the odd screw too in order to keep my sanity. Got the end missing off my left thumb and can't always starts screws with my left hand while some situations make it impossible to use my right. Found out that some came with it and some came without, puzzled why they would make two different setups with cabin air filters. Thanks, Mark The easiest way to find out is via an online parts search (napa etc) or call a local parts dealer . The chevy dealer would know for sure. Appreciate the hastings having an [quoted text clipped - 14 lines] > > Take care, > > Kevin One thing I wanted to point out to all as I came across this: Double check the the part you intended to order based on the year of your vehicle against the OEM part# - I say this because while I have a 2003 Silverado LS 1500 Ext Cab 4WD w/5.3L V8 (Type T), the OEM part# for the cabin filter crossreferences to a 2002 Silverado. I actually talked to Hastings and they told me since I purchased my truck in Oct-2002, yes it was a 2003 model, but it still used some 2002 components. I discovered this only because the cabin filter for a 2003 was a single filter while the 2002 was a 2-piece kit - had I not double checked against the OEM part# in my owner's manual, I would have purchased the wrong part. Hastings said GM/Chevy probably made the change to the trucks actually manufactured in 2003. |
