When turning at low speed, my 2000 Z71  has a  small tick that can be
felt through the steering wheel.  I has 60,000 easy miles on it and
the tires have always been rotated at 5,000 miles and hand torked.
Feels like it could be a wheel bearing with a flat spot on one of the
rollers.

My daughter's 2004 Tahoe has 16,000 miles on it and is starting to
make that same noise.  This must be a common problem.  What experience
has this most knowledeable group found to be the problem?

I have a 2001 z and have felt the same thing, I took it to a mechanic
and cant recall the technical terms, but there is something in the
steering column that is square shaped that tends to make that same
sound and feel. I was told this was completely harmless outside of the
annoyance.

Greetings,

Intermediate steering shaft.  Common problem.

There are tech bulletins out for this issue, as well as a redesigned part
for replacement.  Check with your dealer, both may be under warranty, but if
not it's not TOO expensive to have replaced.

Cheers - Jonathan

Exactly right, it's the intermediate shaft.  I brought my '03 Sierra in for
it 2 or 3 times.  First time, they used a "new" lube.  Lasted a few months.
Last time they replaced it and used the new lube but it's been doing it for
a while now.  I really should go back but I just haven't had the time.  I
wonder why I should have it replaced again if it's only going to last 10k
miles or so (if that).

Does anyone know the new UPGRADED part number? My dealer hasn't heard of an
upgraded part.

Thanks,
G
