It may not be the axle. If the solenoid pack or oil lines leak many times it
will run down past the axle and fool you. Check those things first. Also
check to see if there is alot of play (not rotational but slop) in there. If
so the carrier bearings may be shot. Nothing you can do there it will need a
teardown and rebuild.

Thanks, the trans. guy pulled the trans. and had to replace a pump seal I
believe, so I think he would have noticed these other things. The reason I
think it's the axle is because the leak began right after it was replaced.
My next step is the try a different axle and mic it before to see if the
circumference is a little larger than the old one.
Any comment on the sleeve or parts store to shop ?

I would have the seal checked again. There is a possibility that the seal
was nicked or tore when the new axle was installed.

Thanks, but we've replaced two seals already trying to determine if that was
the problem.
