Someone ripped off my name and put it on the reply to my first email.
They made their reply look like it came from my email box!

I didn't write the reply that is so disgusting and I don't know who
did.

Struck on Christmas day when he knew most newsgroup administrators would be
away from their computers. Seems to have hit some newsgroups and not others,
which implies it is a virus taking advantage of some flaw in server
software. Should be easy to fix if the administrator is on the job.

I would guess it's some kid who has paid attention in English literature
class, because it's a take-off on Swift's 18th Century "Modest Proposal"
joke, which you can look up on the Web.

All you guys have been so good over the years.  The friendliest, and
most helpful bunch of guys.

Quite a few people have been 'spoofed' in recent weeks (not just this
holiday period) on other newsgroups as well.

It's usually obvious since the real owners of the e-mail boxes do not
normally send junk.

I can't comment on anything other than the Christmas newsgroup spoofs, since
I didn't see these other ones. But I am pretty sure that the ones I saw were
generated on newsgroup servers, since one group attacked is heavily
moderated, with human intervention and a delay of at least one day before a
sent message appears, and several spoofed messages appeared there
instantaneously. That had to be a virus on the server.

Anyway, back to cars. Cheers.
