Does anyone know at what date the changes were made to the 2005
minivans to allow them to earn the Five Star crash test ratings for
both frontal and side impact?  We're close to buying a new one, and
we don't want to wind up with one of the older models.

Your worry should not be frontal and rear crashing.  Your worry should be
focused on rollover.

All vans are more rollover prone than all station wagons.  Choose a wagon
instead; their rollover rate is no higher than that of a sedan.  I
recommend a Pacifica for you.

Rollover has about a 1:3 fatality ratio, which are not particular good odds
in your favor.  Put another way, if you are a family of four and you roll
that van, one of you is likely to die and another is likely to be
hospitalized.  Two of you will walk away unscathed.  Its all in the math.
