Just read Mercedes is now the brand that has seen profits plummet while
the Chrysler end made 10x the profit of the Mercedes nameplate, with
the hot selling Chrysler 300 etc.  How times change...

I'm still upset about Chrysler selling out to Daimler.  I can't believe the
stockholders bought into it...after all the failed mergers out there too!

The stockholders were told (at the time) that it was a merger - not an
acquisition as Daimler execs called it soon after.

What ever happened to Kerkorian's law suit?

I know that stockholders of record at the time of the "merger" were
offered a settlement about a year ago (I posted details of the offer
in this NG) by DC in an attempt to (I think) limit the dammages that
they'd be liable for if Kerkorian wins his suit.

Very strange.

Punch "Kerkorian chrysler" into Google News search and you'll get ONLY
1 hit.

    Dodge goes retro with Charger
Seattle Post Intelligencer, WA - 28 Jan 2005

Pretty recent article.  Too bad the link doesn't work.

Someone is going to very remarkable lengths to keep this story out of
the news.

A general web search turns up this article:

http://www.ai-online.com/issues/article_detail.asp?id=674

Which briefly mentions the law as still pending.

Stock holders had no choice.

I do wonder how long the 300 will remain stylish and hot.  PTCruiser was hot
too once.

It will remain hot until everyone that wants ones gets one, then the sales
will trail off.

I'm still waiting for the Suburban ^H Hummer H2 to stop being "stylish"
James C. Reeves - 12 Feb 2005 04:13 GMT
Personally, I don't think either one is particularly hot.  But, I'm
obviously in the minority.

And had a nice long run, and still sells "OK." If the 300 exactly
matches the PT's sales curve, it will be an unmitigated success. Nothing
stays top-of-the-market for decades except a few bland, generic,
rental-fleet people-movers like Camry and Taurus.

I bet there are a couple of companies out there that would love to make a
bland car that sells like the Camry.

If you go down to your Chrysler dealership, they'll tell you how they
now have "Mercedes technology" in the new models.

I've also recently read some complaints about Mercedes quality
declining.

Apparently, they're putting Chrysler technology in Mercedes now.

Don't tell my Sebring I posted this.

Some suspension components and the crappy wiper stick has been incorporated
into some new Chrylsers.

Just a reminder that that is a personal opinion.  I like the integrated
wiper stick with indicator, as it happens (if that is what you mean).

Do you have a 300?  That has the Mercedes stick.

Please pardon my ignorance, but WTH is an "intergrated wiper stick"?

To answer your and Art's queries:

An integrated wiper stick is one on which the wiper functions and indicators
(plus main headlight beam) are on the one stalk.

My car is a Merc -- not Mercury :-) -- CLK Cabrio.  (My other car is a Merc
190E with same type of stalk...)

Thanks.  After getting the thought of a self wiping oil dipstick out of my
mind, your definition finally came to mind.

Now that image sticks in MY mind...  It brings to mind an April 1 advert
that BMW once ran in the UK.

It promoted the BMW badge with wiper.

I hate those combination "sticks".

Change? That's exactly how it was just prior to the merg^H^H^H^H rape
and pillage. MB was sucking its own exhaust and desperate for Chrysler's
modern and rapid design-to-production capabilities. Most pundits who
actually understood engineering realized that Benz needed Chrysler a lot
worse than Chrysler needed Benz. Too bad Chrysler management at the time
didn't actually understand engineering...

Blame the dollar/euro exchange rate.
