'98 Caravan - Electric and Liftgate Trouble

Greetings,

Perhaps someone can advise. Some time ago both fromt and rear parking
lights on my 98 Caravan stopped operating. I checked the bulbs and the
fuses, and they were OK. Next, the dashboard lights also stopped
working; again, the fuse was fine. (The Check Engine, airbag, etc.
lights are working.) Must be something with the wiring. Given what the
shops charge to even touch the car, I'd rather fix this myself, but
what is the best source for a detailed wiring diagram?

Also, last year one of the liftgate shocks broke. I replaced it, but
now the liftgate won't stay up. Is there any way to find out which of
the shocks is giving out without removing them?

Thanks!

did you try checking your park lamps relay located in the power
distribution centre beside the battery. is a four prong terminal. two big
terminal and two small. bridge the two big terminal and check to see if
lights come on. if lights come on it means that those circuits are good.
then check the small terminals. one should be ground and the other would
have 12volts with switch on the on position. requires multimeter to
perform test. if all circuits are good then you probably need a new
headlgiht switch. in regards to your liftgate shocks, did you replace the
broken one or replace the bolts only?

Liftgate (or for that matter, hood) shocks should really be replaced
in pairs, for safety sake.
If you really want to know which one is bad, you do have to remove
them one at a time and see which one holds up best. (Hopefully you did
not throw the good one out!)
The system is designed for two, and even a new one is going have some
trouble holding up the gate by itself.
Aftermarket shocks (Carquest etc) are usually in the $55-65 price
range for a pair.  Dealer parts much more expensive.
Good luck.
