VIN decipher changes slightly for VIN's prior to 1981.  Pre 1981 VIN's used
between 11 and 17 characters. Some antique vehicles even have shorter VIN
numbers.   Present VIN's use 17 characters.

Just about. Chassis type, engine type, and so on. If you look in
even the Haines manuals, they will explain the VIN.
The factory shop manual will go into great detail, I also believe.

What's the VIN you're trying to decode? (first 11 digits)
