On my Chrysler 5th Ave it has a factory alarm that normaly you would unlock
the passenger door with a key to disable it. For some reason this does not
wok anymore and I wish to disable the whole alarm because now we can NOT
turn it off. It has disabled starting of the car and this is my only car I
own. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to resolve it? I have
tried to unhook the batter over night this stops the lights from flashing
but the car still does not start. It simpley starts and kills within a
second.

Hi...

Each of the front door key slots has an electrical switch mounted
to the back of the switch itself...  in your case if unlocking
neither door will turn the alarm off then both will have broken
and fallen off.

It's probably easier, cheaper, and safer to replace one or both.

Or, if you have a remote, use it to unlock the doors.

The alarm seems to be ignoring the key unlocking either front door. Also
there is no remote for this, can I remove the switches or cross them to
make the car think its tunred off? Thanks for your help. Mark

Ken,
Thanks for your help you pointed me in the right direction I simpley
cut off the sensor at the end of the passenger door lock and it disabled
the alarm and allowed my car to start.. THANKSSS!!!!

Hmmm...... at 3:36pm  you posted "can I remove the switches or cross them"
and at 3:52pm you had the door panels off, cut and crossed the wires and
came back here to post your findings all in 16 minutes?  Tell me more!!

As I said take the door panel off without knowing what is in it or what
wires to cut. cut and splice  and post your findings?? think about it Dirty.

Glen,
To be honest I only needed the top of the panel bent back enough to
reach in at pull the arm/disarm switch off. The plastic screew kept
scratching the crap out of my back of my forarm. Also my wife is the one
that had removed the bottom half of the door enough to slide it over the
door lock to get to the panel hole. Once I got the car the start I raced
inside to thank Ken for pointing me in the right direction. As my wife put
the door back on, probley like your boss does to you.. hehe.

Well we had the panel 1/2 pryed off already I had read something on this
forum about arm/disarm switches but didn't know where they where located
or what they looked like. One Ken said at the ends of the locks, we pulled
one off. Basicaly it uses the lock when turned to disable or break the
circut. So I tried 1st trying to start the car with the circut opened and
then I cut it off and crossed wires. To my serprise after 2 days of
pulling fuses and trying all the simple things I could do it worked. The
alarm was a holly nightmare I see why they stopped using this old turn key
alarm without remotes. maxpower I hope this gives you a better idea of how
I fixed it or anyone else that has this same problem.

Thanks,

Well, that plus the fact that car alarms are pretty useless against most
thieves, who merely break the window and reach in and grab what
they want, then run away.  I would also guess that the 5th Avenue was
never high on the professional car thieves list even when new.
