I have a 99 voyager. Originally it had a 3.3 L which was replaced with a 3.6
L right before I bought it. I have a oil light problem. My oil light will
come on and beep after starting the vehicle and letting it warm up, It will
usually start coming on when the engine idols below 1500 RPM's...I will
drive somewhere and turn the van off for 15 - 20mins. When I start the van
again the oil light will come on when the RPM's are below 700-800(while I
idol at a light). Then I go somewhere else for 20 mins or so and get in the
van to go home and that light won't come on at all. Any ideas what this
could be? I'm thinking it's an electrical issue with the compatibility from
the original 3.3 engine to the 3.6 engine. I don't have a oil pressure
guage, just a warning light. There is also no smoke coming from the exhaust
and I am not losing power while driving and my engine is not overheating.
Any help would be appreciated.
I'd suggest that you remove the oil sender since the pressure switch may be
going bad. While you have it out, screw in a mechanical pressure gauge to
get a real reading at idle. These oil senders do tend to go bad and are not
terribly expensive or difficult to replace so it is worth checking that
first.
