Hi --

I am looking for any information on why my autostick will not shift.
Here are the specifics of the condition:

Automatic transmission mode works beautifully.  No noises or dropping.

If i shift into autostick while not in motion it goes into first gear
but will not shift up.  If i shift while in motion it goes into the
appropriate gear but will not shift up or down.  almsot as if the
slap-conntectors aren't connecting.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I forgot to add make/model info

The car is 2002 Sebring Lt Ed. Coupe Convertible.

Thanks

It may be the slap sensor connector.  Has it ever worked right, or is
this a problem that has developed since you've had it?  I ask because
certain parts (instrument cluster and possible one of the computers) are
specific to autostick/non-autostick - just wondering if anyone possibly
swapped out one of those parts to the wrong (non-autostick) one.

Does the tranny range indicator go from 'D' to '1' when you move the
shifter from drive to A/S?  If not, it may be a cable adjustment or
range sensor (located in the tranny) issue.

Hi Bill, thanks for the reply

More specifics: It used to work but slowly stared malfunctioning,
getting harder and harder to slap into the speed needed in both
directions, then just one day died altogether.

It does move from D to the appropriate speed when shifting (1st at a
stop, the correct speed when moving i.e if going about 35-40, it shifts
into 3rd.)

Where are the sensors? Perhaps I can fix it myself? I am pretty
mechanically inclined and not afraid of taking my car apart.

Thanks

The hall effect sensors are mounted on the shifter mechanism.  Remove
the shifter knob (a single set screw probably facing forward).  Remove
the shifter bezel - will be somewhere on the shifter (hint: the shifter
metal has to just about touch them when moved from side to side for
Autostick).  Probably the hall effect module is bad.

Not sure you can get just the hall effect switches thru the dealer - may
have to get the whole shifter assy. - probably around $100-125.  Might
be a good junk yard part.

(The above descriptions are based on LH cars - I have to assume that the
Sebring is pretty much identical.)
