Hi Bill, thanks for the reply
More specifics: It used to work but slowly stared malfunctioning,
getting harder and harder to slap into the speed needed in both
directions, then just one day died altogether.
It does move from D to the appropriate speed when shifting (1st at a
stop, the correct speed when moving i.e if going about 35-40, it shifts
into 3rd.)
Where are the sensors? Perhaps I can fix it myself? I am pretty
mechanically inclined and not afraid of taking my car apart.
Thanks

The hall effect sensors are mounted on the shifter mechanism. Remove
the shifter knob (a single set screw probably facing forward). Remove
the shifter bezel - will be somewhere on the shifter (hint: the shifter
metal has to just about touch them when moved from side to side for
Autostick). Probably the hall effect module is bad.
Not sure you can get just the hall effect switches thru the dealer - may
have to get the whole shifter assy. - probably around $100-125. Might
be a good junk yard part.
(The above descriptions are based on LH cars - I have to assume that the
Sebring is pretty much identical.)
