Hi,
In an attempt not to spend £80 per hour at my main dealer i took my
intermittantly stalling 02 reg 2.5 CRD Grand Voyager Limited to my local
garage. I even threw in a copy of the Chrysler workshop manual in case they
got stuck
They happily reported that it was error code P0340 and had replaced the
camshaft position sensor and all was well.
It was all ok if you class only being able to get 6 miles ok.
Anyway its back with them and they arent getting very far with it. I have
asked them to follow the workshop manual not the Bosch Autodata machine, but
they dont seem convinced.
Has anyone had this issue before :
Driving is fine, then if youre lucky you get one slight judder, then a
minute later full engine cutout. If left for 15 to 20 minutes it will start
again...if you havent been cranking it and the battery has died. If you get
it started you have approximately 5 maybe 10 minutes before it will do it
again. Only code its throwing is the P0340 apparently.
Any ideas greatfully accepted, before i just drag its sorry a.s to the main
dealers.

What you need to do is check for 8 volts at pin 2 of the Camshaft Position
Sensor (orange wire). Then check the sensor ground at pin 1 (black/light
blue). If neither are good, check pin 44 at the PCM connector for 8 volts
and pin 43 at the PCM connector for ground.
If they are good, then check pin 3 (tan/yellow wire) between the connector
and pin 33 at the PCM connector. If it is good, you have a bad PCM.
With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are
some things to try:
a.. Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
b.. Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
c.. Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
d.. Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
e.. Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
f.. Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
g.. Diagnose/replace the PCM as required
