My Xantia

I bought my Xantia after this story.
http://johan.aacity.net/200509/index.htm
It's a '97 1.9 td model and had done 300.000km
Dark red (pedestrian red) metallic.
I bought it for about e3000 at a workshop specialized in Citroen.
There are quite a lot of those out here in The Netherlands. They
aren't official dealers, but they are specialized in Citroen.
That workshop also does undenting, ie fixing wrecks and turn them into
sellable cars.

So, I'm not quite sure what the origin is of the car. Could well be an
ex-wreck but if it is, they did a great paint job.
I knew all that when I bought the car. But the price was right and the
car looked to be in a good shape.
I wanted a diesel since petrol has more value these days as gold. Next
to that, I had heard rumors about vegetable oil.

Well the car is great and well worth the money I spend. It hasn't left
me yet despite the driver.
It pulls better that expected. I had a 1.9 diesel (BX) once but with
that turbo it almost acts like a petrol car.

Ever since the discussion I started here I tap 50% (or less) vegetable
oil. 20 liter diesel and 20 liter vegetable oil, sunflower.
Diesel is about one Euro, sunflower oil is 0.65 so that's worth the
dirty hands.
I have a 20 liter portable tank I fill first. It avoids spillage on
the outside of the car that is hard to remove.
Yeah, sure. I'm worried that customs stops me. I have thought of
various excuses but I fear I'll just tell the truth when I'm stopped.
I live in a rural area, agriculture all around and I know they test
for blue and red.
We'll see, so far so good.

The sunflowerpower works great. Just after filling the tank the engine
sputters once to continue as normal after that. So far the lowest
temperature I had here was minus 7 centigrade.

I had troubles with the aircon. I couldn't get the temperature right.
I was always to high. I once almost cooked my mother-in-law once. I
have been fiddling with the settings and I finally got it right.
Set the temperature. Blow towards the windscreen to un-fog. If it gets
warm blow below and the temperature will remain as set.

The Xantia isn't a looker as the XM was. It's just a car like many
others. The only thing different is the suspension and the fact
thre're some weird specialists that have workshops around this brand.
I'm glad that Citroen has corrected the Xara error and have created a
line of cars that have some character.

Nice thing about a Cit is you can comment colleges that drive VW, Audi
and Volvo's. For some weird reason those are the brands on the parking
place at work.
Soon I won't be able to comment my current collegues. Need to find
some new soon.

It will be interesting to watch the long-term effects of your experiment.
I'd be worried about excessive wear of the pump, or gradual clogging up of
the pipes and valves.

I'll keep you up-to-date.

Well spotted. It's near and somehow it seemed fitting, a parkingplace
near a cemetery.
Didn't know you had that many Cit's.

I found this,

and

Nothing to do with three weels.
What did I miss?

They tried to sell me a car that has never been involved in an
accident.
<carsellers reading this, don't ever do that if big dents are visible>

> I had 3 Honda's, before I bought a Citroen

Had two Diahatsoe's. One from Brand in Zeijen en one from Garage de
Vries.

Do I recall something about an infinite number of monkeys, typewriters and
Shakespeare?

That was Dutch. Jandebehanger and I live in the same town (Assen) but
have never met though sharing same interests.
That monkey thing is here
