Hi there,

I've got a Xantia which has been sinking at the back for a while now. I
got it up on the axle stands on Friday and found a nice seized up
height corrector, as expected.

However, the bit that was broken was the little U shaped bit of steel
rod that links the plastic bit of the corrector to the anti-roll bar. A
bit of internet searching shows people saying that it's a cheap and
easy replacement, but no one saying where you can get one. Can anyone
tell me where I'd find one?

Also, how much elbow grease will it take to loosen the height corrector
up?

Thanks in advance,

Ambrose

You wont free it off !!!

You can spray with WD40 all day but it will not get into the seized
bits.

This is a common problem with the Xantia, the metal link has snapped
because the height corrector is seized, so you will need to replace
both. In fact replacement wil be less time than you will spend spraying
and swearing.

You can get recon units from Pleiades www.citroen-hydraulics.com  or
ring them on 01487 831239.

Dont forget to spray all the linkages with a spray on grease when
replaced, this will keep the replacement working longer.

Regards.

I take it that applies even if I've got all day to spend with the
plusgas, WD40, PTFE lube, etc, and really really would rather not be
spending the money. Also, I'm rather scared of undoing LHM seals. You'd
definitely recommend replacing it.

I'll give them a call. Their website doesn't seem to say how much the
deposit on the recon unit is.

I'll do that. Of course, 125000 miles and 12 years with apparently no
servicing is a pretty good innings anyway.

Thanks. This is one of the most helpful newsgroups I've seen.

I very much doubt if you will get it free, however long you try.

In my honest opinion, the only cure is to bung another one on.

Dont fear the pipes, use a decent flare nut spanner and they will be
fine.

Thanks. There's a perpetual stingy optimist in me that's insisting on
giving it a try for an hour, but at least it means I won't be too
annoyed when I crawl out after an hour of unsuccessful cramped awkward
dirty smelly dingy work.

Reassuring.

Thanks once again.

if you are absolutely set on an hour of unsuccessful cramped awkward dirt
smelly dingy work, you could do worse than spray diesel fuel on it - you'll
find it is super smelly and given my recent experiemce with "diesel and
carpets" I can vouch for it's super penetrative powers!

he's right you know ...

I'd spend part of your hour spraying plus-gas (or diesel) on the fittings
before attempting to move them ... and then use a decent spanner ... and I'd
personally recommend tightening them slightly to "break the seal
(corrosion!)" before undoing them ...
