Saxo VTR 1999 - Vibration and Rumbling

Heyup,

Noticed a vibration at 50+ mph, got wheels balanced (centre-less alloys
- that's another thing entirely!) and this hasn't solved the problem.
Doesn't seem to disappear when I try to "drive through" it either.
Even comes and goes when I maintain similar speeds?!

If this isn't a balancing issue, what could it be?  There seems to be a
random rumbling from the front end also when I steer any large amount
at higher speeds - is this related?

Just bought the car and don't want to go back to the garage and not
know what I'm talking about.  Any help / guidance appreciated.

Thanks, N!

Are they aftermarket alloys? Or are there spacers behind them?

Sounds like f.cked wheelbearings - if the wheels have been changed and have
the wrong offset, then that could well eat bearings quickly.

No mate,
Standard fitment 14" x 5 spoke.  I've ruled out brake discs being
distorted, as there is no rumble under braking.  Don't know if it's
maybe Drive-shaft distortion (how can I get that checked?).  Wheel
Bearing would make sense though, with the rumble when turning at high
speeds - but would that cause the random vibration?
It's back at the place I bought it and they are taking it to their man
to have a look - here's hoping!

Has it had ChavRims on it in the past...?

Depends how f.cked they are...

Hi,

Took it back to the dealer where I bought it.  Told the car was fine
before I took it away (yada yada), then reluctantly took it to their
technician to have a look....
Got the car back and told there where no weights on the wheels (after
I'd paid to have it done!), they'd balanced them again and now it runs
fine!!!

Ghost weights: a case for Yvette Fielding and the Most Haunted Crew.

Laters,
Neil
