You're right. A POS.
alt.autos.bmw is that way ->

Later Xant with 6+2 pump, I presume? Could well be - the power steering
doesn't go through the main regulator block, like on older hydraulic
cars. I'm fairly sure they're all-metal on my s2 XM, though.

Sounds about right for a Cit parts price... <wince>

Could take it to somewhere like Pirtek - if it's a leak where the flex
joins the metal, they may be able to do something.

New spheres are £20 each.
Only lot I know of that still do regassing (Westroen in Manchester)
charge £125 for five regassed spheres fitted. Haven't noticed anybody
doing any at an event for years (but I might have missed someone)

thanks. will supply my own flushing oil and expect a small discount
for the cit bloke not using any of his LHM

that's what he said. what do you think about it being a 2 hour job ?

the entire metal union is corroded beyond repair. it's location is
why I thought it would be a common fault with an inexpensive
fix, what with all the water, salt and grit the part is exposed to.

ok, ok. I'll buy new from GSF

will bear that in mind.

<FX/tannoy>last chance for sphere regassing before the parade
</FX>
p.s
if all 5 spheres are replaced (accum ok) and flushing oil is in for
1000 miles and the LHM is replaced but float isn't evident, what's
the next likely fault ? there's a lot of life left in the car but there is
also a limit to how much I'm willing to spend to prove that, iyswim.

Dunno. Might be, might not be. Not stuck my head up one and had a look.

At Wood Green? Didn't see/hear that.
Seriously, you should have found me and said "Hello, Adrian, I'm Dot"...

rear arm bearing will be done.

If you were there, and I was there, it seems more "stalkery" NOT to look me
out and say hello...

But then 'Dotties' secrete would be out, I understand that it's
difficult to disguise a penis shapped object...

Is it possible to replace the part with a length of suitably bent copper
tubing as used in central heating and a jubilee clip? I did this
successfully on a metal fuel pipe on a Pug 205D.

I wouldn't like to do that on the 'pressure' side of a hydraulic
circuit, and certainly not on a system that is safety critical...!
