Sphere changing question

Hi,

I'm changing the front spheres on my Xantia (W reg 2.0 HDi) myself for
the first time, but when I loosened the pressure regulator screw, I
didn't notice any noise at all.  Surely there should be a hiss or
something when the pressure is released?  I turned the screw 1 1/2
turns.  Suspension was fully lowered prior to this.  Engine wasn't
running when I loosened the screw.

Cheers,

Marky P.

If you have fully lowered the suspension then you will have almost
completely depressurised the system. I wouldn't rely on it being completely
depressurised but quite a few Citroen specialists don't bother doing much
else.

What's the accumulator like? Might be worth changing that, too.

I think the accumulator's knackered.  No STOP light on start up, it
used to stay on for a few seconds.

There y'go, then.

No pressure in the accumulator to BE released. Get it changed - it's
perhaps the single most important - certainly the most safety-critical -
sphere on the car, and a flat acc can cause damage to the pressure
regulator.

Not an expert but if the car was lowered prior to this there wouldn't be any
pressure. Would there?

You're right, with the suspension fully lowered and the engine off
there's no pressure in the system so you won't get any venting through
the regulator bleed screw.
