Hi folks,

Please ignore this post - it's a test as part of an IT course that I'm
undertaking.

Apologies for any inconvenience suffered :-)

There are special newsgroups for 'test posts'; eg alt.test - if you use a
genuine email address, you'll get an auto-responder email confirming the
details of how your post reached 'the system'.

Newcomers to newsgroups should start here

   <http://computer.howstuffworks.com/newsgroup.htm>

and here

<http://members.fortunecity.com/nnqweb/>, the Official Home Page of the
   newsgroup called news.newusers.questions.

Hi Whiskers,

Like I said in the OP I needed to post a message. I know all about test
groups - but I don't subscribe to any and this message had to go to a
group I was already subscribed to. I didn't need a responder and I NEVER
use my real email address in newsgroups.

I'm not a newsgroup newbie; I've been contributing for several years. Do
a search on this group and you'll find several posts from me and I've
only been subscribed for a couple of months. I'm also a regular
contributor to six other newsgroups and about the same number of forums.

Happy now?

You do not have to 'subscribe' to a newsgroup to post to it - in fact it
would be rather silly to subscribe to alt.test.

If you 'need to post a message' and don't want to get flamed for posting
test mesages to a non-test group, then post a message that only you know
is "a test".

The links I gave you will take you eventually to
<http://members.fortunecity.com/nnqweb/nnqlinks.html#test>, which is
relevant.

When you make a newbie-type mistake, you get replied to as a newbie.

<shrug> I don't know if that state is one I can ever expect to attain.

Okay, I've tried to be polite but as you don't know the first thing
about me or what I am doing and still feel obliged to sound off all
superior here's my final word on the subject before you go into my kill
file.

I didn't make a mistake. I deliberately sent that post to this
newsgroup. I made it quite clear in the subject that it didn't require
any form of response .. but I guess there's no helping some folk. On
that basis you can take your supercilious, pious comments and stuff 'em
where the sun is never, ever going to shine.

Now I'll take money on the fact you can't resist responding to this - I
even bet you feed trolls - even though I won't be able to read your
words because you're plonked :-)

Hi, hey everything is TIC y'know :-)

Just as a matter of interest I'm a Gold standard RoSPA advanced driver,
an IAM senior observer, a qualified ADI(Car) and LGV1 license holder. I
keep my frustrations well away from the roads :-)

For all you know we've already met ... I'm the one that doesn't drive so
close behind that I can hear your stereo playing and always give a smile
and a wave to other courteous drivers.

And just to prove I'm a really nice person really I drive a Citroen :-))

"end user"  v.  A command regrettably not implemented in most systems.

Good heavens, is he still whittering?  His 'test post' in a non-test group
certainly proved something.

WOW! A Dickin Medal recipient - now I understand how you won the war.
Was that the Crimean War? :-)
