Hi,
We have a 2006 C2 Design fitted with CD/Radio (standard equipment).
We want to plug in an external audio source (MP3 player), but it doesn't
have an audio input. Citroen do sell a kit which can be fitted to do this,
but I'm not sure it works with our stereo (I will be checking).
We might well decide anyway that we want a new head unit (one with an
audio in), and would be happy to fit this ourselves if the car is fitted
with a standard ISO connector at the rear of the head unit, and the
warranty isn't affected.
The thing is, the C2 not only has the controls by the steering wheel,
but has the display further up the dashboard. Does anyone know if there's a
standard stereo head unit out there which will interface to both of these?

Almost certainly not.
You may be able to get third-party adapters which will allow certain head
units to be connected, but you might not. The steering wheel remotes are
more likely than the display.
Any decent specialist audio supplier (No, that isn't Halfrauds) should be
able to help.

If you don't want the expense of a new radio you could try one of these:

SWMBO got an iTrip for Xmas - exact same theory.
It's perfectly decent sound quality, but far from perfect. The biggest
problem, though, is finding a quiet enough part of the FM spectrum for a
complete journey without fannying about changing it regularly.

It's probably totally illegal too (in the UK at least), as it could
well interfere with other services.

Legalised 9th December 2006 I think.
I understand that they were being legalised across Europe and the UK
government couldn't prevent them being legalised in this country
(although they were less than ecstatic about it).

A month ago, yes.
Now, no.
Hence SWMBO getting one for Xmas.

The Belkin will operate from either AAA batteries or a cigarette lighter
transformer. I find it works best when powered from the car rather than
batteries. It's probably giving a stronger signal powered like this and
appears to "swamp" the lower powered broadcasts and background noise on
the FM frequencies. It is a slight problem finding a clear(ish)
frequency as you say.
An experiment with a friends iTrip showed that it was giving a signal
that could be picked up by the car radio when it was about 50m from the
car. The Belkin doesn't have anything like that range when battery
powered, I haven't tried it on external power.
It is worth noting that these devices have recently been made legal in
the UK. Until a few days ago you could be clobbered with the whole might
of the sections of the Wireless Telegraphy Act which made pirate radio
stations illegal.

Got that (different brand) - it works, but signal is not totally clean.

Changing the subject slightly, did you see that Citroen sell an iPod
with a free C1 thrown in:
"The funky looking 1.0i petrol C1 Airplay comes with a stylish 1GB black
iPod nano and integrated docking station that allows music to be played
through the car head unit and speakers."
