After a recent flat battery and using jump leads to get the car started, I now seem to have a permanent flashing LED on the dash. It is on the extreme left of the row of buttons. But it has no icon to indicate what it might be. And the manual doesn't acknowledge its existence. I should also point out that when I first connected the jump leads there was one of those distinctive alarm "blips". Which would be news to me as I never realised that I had one! Maybe the flashing red LED is the alarm. Although prior to the flat battery I don't remember the light ever being on. Any suggestions? I only have experience with a Xantia and what I have written applies to the Xantia and possibly not your XM but here goes (although, to me it would seem logical that the top of the range XM would have an alarm) and if it was a Xantia it would could only be the alarm. It sounds like the light that flashes when the alarm has gone off (the alarm shuts up again after 2 minutes so your neighbours don't come and set fire to your car) which also comes on after you disconnect the battery to let you know that someone has "broken in". I presume that the alarm is disabled with a key somewhere in the engine bay and that someone has done this in the past as the alarm is probably dodgy and goes off because the ultrasonic detectors (mounted in the doors) are broken. Anyhow, you could look under the bonnet for this key switch (the ignition key enables/disables it) but you would only turn the alarm back on by switching it. The alarm disable key switch on the XM is under the bonnet at the front left as you stand facing it (if I remember correctly). Yep, standard on all s2 XMs. Armed with the second keyfob button, disarmed by unlocking from the keyfob, along with the deadlocks. > Maybe the flashing red LED is the alarm. Bought the car 6 months ago. But it's been stood for over a month as I haven't had cause to use it. Flat battery and hence the current problem. Didn't get a keyfob with the car. Just two normal keys. Expensive? Probably more than the car's worth... You'd need to find the receiver to get the code, as it won't be in your handbook packet... Without the fob, you've got no way of deadlocking it, either, so a toerag can get in by breaking a window - if it's locked with the one-two from the keyfob, the interior lock buttons don't work. > Anyway of resetting the alarm without keyfob? Finally got the AA out. But they couldn't get it started. So a truck was called out to take me to my local Citroen specialist. About 200 yards away! Turned out to be a very flat battery. Battery charged, electrics tested. Nothing wrong. Wrists slapped and told to use the car more often. What an idiot ;-) But the did say it was a very nice car. The red light is turned off by turning the ignition and holding the button down for a few seconds.
