  Hello evertybody
I own a citroen AX 1.4,SPI, 92 model and i want to flush the cooling
system.
I have read somewhere that i could use a spool of the detergent calgon
in the water and let the engine work to the appropriate temperature.
Please let me know if this is a suggested way as i am afraid of
destroying any seals or connections hoses.
Any others ideas or syggestions would be helpfull..

Thanks in advance
Vaggos

Hi,

Some time ago we spoke to eachother :-)

Don't flush the cooling system, all the little holes in the radiator and
hoses
that are now closed by the calgon and other dirt will start leaking.

- Turn the heater knob to hot air
- Drain the coolant and fill the system with distilled or demi-water and let
the
engine run for a few minutes.
- Drain the water when the engine is cooled down
(some 30 minutes with the bonnet open.)
- Fill the radiator with coolant and start the engine
- The coolant level in the expansion tank will drop, fill it up with more
coolant
- Don't close the expansion tank yet.
- Bleed the cooling system to remove the air.
There is bleeding (air) valve on the hoses of the heater radiator where
it enter
  the dashbord under the bonnet.
There is a (air) valve on the thermostathouse/cylinderhead, very
important to
bleed this one. The cylinderhead is the highest point in the car and if
there is any
air in the cylinderhead it may lead to overheat the head and blow out the
headgasket.
The last one is on the radiator itself.
(Check the haynes manual for the bleeding holes)
- Let the engine run until the radiator cooling fan cuts in.
- Check the coolant level and fill it up till maximum if it is dropped.
- Put the cap on the expansion tank and make a short drive (15 to 30 min.)
- If the engine is cooled down chech the level again, usually it will drop a
little bit, just
 top it up again.
- Check the level again next day.

Good luck!

 Nice to find you again
I had an oil leakage to the cooling system through the head gasket and i
am in the procedure of replacing it..
The problem is that the oil started to look milky and i want to flush the
cooling system in order to remove all residues from the old coolant.
I don't know if it is enough to clean the cooling system just with
distilled water or if i should first follow another procedure.

Thanks in advance
Vaggos
