Stop Light

Xantia 1.9TD SLX 1996

The stop light has illuminated twice on the way into work today (Sunday
boo hiss). Both times it has gone out immediately so I didn't stop.
I've checked the hydraulic fluid level, the oil level and the water
level. All are fine. The engine isn't overheating either.

The only work done recently for the MOT was replacing the front disks
and pads and I have had the low pad warning light illuminate briefly a
couple of times since then. Presumably the garage didn't plug the pad
sensor in properly. I haven't had the opportunity to check yet as it's
been dark and freezing since it happened.

Any ideas?

did any other light come on at the same time?

my STOP! light is always coming on but is accompanied by the coolant temp
(white) light ... as there is clearly nothing wrong with the cooling system
I've put it down to a dodgy temp sensor (any ideas?)

on my old 850 Volvo one could read the fault codes, without any special
tools, from a small flashing light on the diagnostic port ... does a 1999
Xant hdi do the same ?   I am loathed to take it to our local Citroen c*nts,
(oh sorry, I mean main dealer), to find out which sensor is phuqed?

No not as far as I know. I don't even know where the diagnostic port
is.

There's a lot in common with peugeots here.  It could well be a corroded
contact on the sensor.  On our 99 306 one of the contacts for the temp.
sensor system is near the aircon reservoir and in direct splashing range
when filling the screenwash.  I cleaned all the contacts I could find
(and weren't obviously lights) with servisol.  The one I mentioned above
was the only corroded one. The stop light doesn't come on anymore. bumoy
roads used to make it flicker, speed bumps could trigger it, worse in
the wet.

I suggest looking in the haynes for relevant contacts giving them the
servisol and if possible wire wool treatment.
