starting problems 01 dakota 4.7 v8

here is the problem
when i go to start my truck i turn it to my accessiories everything turns
on (radio, lights, etc... turns on) when i go to start my truck i get
nothing.  no click nothing.  on my dash my miliage and my gears
(P,R,N,D,2,1) the box dose not show up around park or nuteral, but when i
tap on the starter it will start, or sometimes when i shift down through
the gears it will receconize that it is in park so if anybody can tell me
what the hell is going on i have tried everyting i could and im losing it
so please HELP

Clean both ends of the battery ground cable.

Check all the ground straps. Usually a bad ground causes funny sh.t to
happen. Ground straps should run between battery and engine, frame and
engine, frame and body. They may be hard to locate, but look for them jsut
the same.

appreacate the help it was the f@#^*n nuteral safty switch but thanks for
the help
