Tell them what happened last time you were there and ask them to be a little
more careful. They should.

I don't have an answer, but here's what I do. When having work done at the
dealer, I ask the service dood, if I could meet the technician working on my
truck. They never have said no. I usually say something like, "This is my
baby, do you understand what I'm saying?" and they usually say "Sure do
mister, I'll treat her right."
I rarely have a problem with the tech's. And if I do, they know and I know
I'm gonna be naming names.

And handing the tech a six-pack will assure that he will remember you for
when you come in the next time. Find a tech you like and request him every
time you come in.

6 star, 1 star sh.t happens, things get forgotten. This is too minor to
make a big deal over. Put the thing back on and get your differentials
serviced. Worse they can do if forget to re fill it with oil or check plug.

Hmm what do you do for a living and what kind of mistakes do you make? Or
can you turn your pencil over and erase yours? or back space over them?.

I think that he was more concerned with the technicians attitude rather than
the minor error and I would be as well.
