I asked my dad why he isn't keeping his little pickup truck in the
garage. He said that he heard that they were catching on fire while
being parked. He asked the dealer about it and they said that ford
would be sending out letters concerning the problem. This was a few
months ago. Now you have to understand that dad is 85 and can get a
little confused so I am not sure what to believe. Have any of you
here heard about such spontanious fires happening?

PS: Has anyone heard from Budd lately? And if anyone has his email
addy would you ping it to me at honeybs@radix.net. I would like to
send him a note.

Yes. It has to do with the cruise control switch shorting out and causing a
fire. It affects 2000 F-150's, Expeditions, and Navigators, as well as the
2001 F-150 Supercrew. A Google search of "Ford cruise control fire" should
turn up plenty of reading material.
Does he have a Ranger? If so, he shouldn't worry.

Ranger is what he has without cruise control. Thanks Tom. When they
get that age they tend to worry about everything.

I have personal knowledge of two burning up, one in an apartment complex
taking out 4 cars and another in a house, taking the house.
It's a bad component in the cruise control circuit. 60 minutes or one of
them had a show on it not too long ago. If it were my dad, I take the truck
away from him and give him a 21 year old nurse instead.

I'd give Dad a pat on the back and tell him "Good Job" and figure
better safe than sorry until he got the whole story. Since you are
asking here after the fact, it just proves there are other sources of
good info beside newsnet.
He probably heard about it during one of his morning trips to
McDonald's for the free senior coffee. That's where my Dad comes up
with a lot of his off-the-wall questions to me. ;-)

Yes. In fact there was an F150 that burst into flames the other night
here in my apt. complex parking lot. Took 2 other vehicles with it.
Started in the cruise control module in the engine. Just the thing Ford
was warning about. I'm really glad the guy didn't park the truck in the
garage. We have attached garages. He had just driven it 10 minutes prior
to it catching fire. I have pictures of it burning up but I don't have a
website to post them too. I know pics aren't allowed in this group.

They're not "allowed", and they're not "prohibited"... no one controls the
group, so no one makes up any rules. Go ahead and post them. Just be
considerate of the 3 or 4 people still left on dialup, and indicate in the
subject line that pictures are attached.

I think there is still 5 of us left. But hell, I'm just thankful they
even have phone service out where I'm at......

Dial-up, yuck! I guess that you don't surf the web much or have great
patience. Actually LOL, I'm going in the opposite direction. I have just
set up a voice over IP connection for my phone and will be stopping my
standard phone service this month. This should save me a fortune with most
of my calls being long distance.

I'm on dialup now. I'm in Key West on one of my mandated random frequent
acts of travel using my old 433 Mhz Abacus laptop.

You also have to take into account that since this is not a binary group,
some of us will not be able to see them because some service providers will
not post the pictures but what the hell, give it a try.

my take on the fire is not w/ cruise control but with the anti-lock brake
system. one of my e-250s is recalled for this and the letter from ford
advises not to park vehicle indoors until checked. the recall # is 04S22. go
to ford web site and follow threads for recall and enter vin # to see if
vehicle is affected.

yeah, saw one guy, I forget the newsgroup had his burn to a crisp.
something
in the cruise control, ford is recalling 2001-?, his was a 1999.......
basically, disconnect cruise control until he gets it to a dealer to have
them check the cruise module
