Runs as though it is running out of gas.Usually feel a hesitation when
accelerating lightly although it deteriorates to backfiring and stumbling
.Sometimes seems to get better if the engine is turned off and restarted. Can
make accelerate smoother if you feather the throttle. If you hold it to the
floor it runs fine.Always starts right up.changed fuel pump.Might run fine
one day although seems to be running worse lately for longer periods.39 lbs
fuel pressure doesnt vary.Injectors test at 14.6 ohms. The belly pan and
intake I replaced, same problem. The cam position sensor is new and synced to
+6.It stays unvarying in degrees.Throttle position sensor is new and
adjusted correctly. The crank position sensor has been reading no signal on
my tester Last couple of scans although the timing can be seen advancing. The
injectors are opening for 2 milliseconds currently. The 02 sensor has been
reading rich whether closed or open mode lately. The map sensor appears to be
varying voltage correctly. The computer has been changed out to no avail.19
inches of vacuum at idle and steady. The problem continues whether egr is
hooked up or bypassed.Temperature sensors are reading correctly. Before I
throw more money at this,I was going to replace the map sensor first, the
crank position sensor next, and then the 02 sensor(Same problem whether cold
or hot).Any one have suggestions?

Why do you have the cam sensor synched to +6?

Check for worn distributor bushings.

They seem tight, although there is some up and down play.Ive been told that
is a good position for the firing of the injectors. What would you suggest
for sync?It doesnt seen to really make a difference although it seems to
gain power when at +6.

I had the same thing this fall on my 3.9. The pickup for the ignition is a
know to fail or intermediatly fail. mine went at 79,000 miles. Drove home
one night and it stumbled and backfired on the highway. When I got off the
highway it just died. Then it took a few long cranking to catch again. I did
have a fault code pop up for the sensor. Changed it the following day in 15
minutes was $70.00. Never happened again. This could be the same issue you
have. Many have this happen but i lucked out it didnt completely fail out on
the road.

Cam sensor synch is supposed to be zero.
I think given that you get a weird read out on the crankshaft
position sensor, you should investigate that area.

Matco Scanner (borrowed)says it is in range. Are you supposed to get sensor
signal when running or just with key on? Both sensors are recognized with
Key on engine off. Also, I just replaced 02 sensor with a Bosch 15704, parts
store says 2 required, but only has one, no other wiring or evidence of
tampering either by the way.Anyway, runs like a raped ape with the new 02
sensor(so far) I noticed the adaptive fuel logic was trying to deduct
between -60 and - 90 and finally decided to try the 02 sensor, as theVoltage
upon last scan was 1.8 in either closed or open mode and reading rich the
whole time it was running. All symptoms appear to be gone. Thanks for the help
guys....
