There has been a great deal said about after market remote starters for
vehicles.  First many of the vehicles today come with some time theft
deterrent system that is controlled by the PCM.  Many including in the Dodge
family use a chip in the key which, if the wrong key is inserted the vehicle
will not stay running.  After market remote starting systems are junk and
could really screw up an auto with a security system.  Not only can after
market systems be bad there is alot of cutting and pasting of wires to
install them creating a rats nest of wire to trouble shoot.

If you do not have a OEM security system you are good to go and it is just
as easy to open the door and start it with a key simple stupid is always the
best just me no slamming intended.

I've had great sucess with DEI products. Take it back to the installer and
have them check it out. They may have simply picked a poor location for the
antenna or forgot to hook it up. DEI offers a lifetime warranty on their
products so if it is a defective unit they will replace it.

I've had 3 trucks with DEI remote starters. There have been zero
problems related to wiring or installation (My present truck seems to
cook the "brain" of the remote starter about every 9 months, it's a 15
minute job to put another one in, and it's totally under the lifetime
warranty. All that happens is the blower won't run when it's in remote
start, a hassle in the winter for sure) It's something that my truck,
and only my truck seems to do. They even checked it out for too high or
low voltages and spikes, etc, and it was cleaner than usual. The last
one they put in is a year old now, so maybe it's "cured".

Range is almost ridiculous. Just to see how far it went, I parked my
truck in the upper left hand corner of a very large mall parking lot and
a friend took me to the lower right hand side and it started with no
problems. I couldn't see the truck, the mall was in between. He took me
down the street another big block and it still started. This was at
least a quarter mile! More than enough for me. If I have to walk 10
minutes to get to my truck, I'm parking in the wrong place.

I think you may have a dud, or the installation was messed up. The place
I had mine done all three times has been doing them for over 30 years,
and the guy who put the last two in had been doing them nearly 10
himself. When they don't need to open up the installation instruction  
sheets anymore, they have done enough of them to have it down.

BTW, I would be shocked if the Mopar starter wasn't DEI. They make most
of them, the decent ones anyway. Viper, Clifford, DEI, all the same
company.

Why the car companies waited all this time to put them in is something I
just don't understand. Now if they would just give up on the crappy head
units they put in most cars. Just make a deal with Pioneer or someone
and use a standard mount and when you buy the car/truck, you can pick
any one of say three or four standard sized head units, and three levels
of speakers you want from them, or no stereo at all, with just the hole
in the dash, and the wiring already set to go..
