The Evaporative Emission Control System Leak code is back.  Already
replaced the gas cap and cleared the code, but it came back after a
couple days.  Did this twice now.

Any suggestions on where to look beyond the gas cap?  TIA.

Is this the '03 Dakota 5.9 R/T CC?
Is the new cap aftermarket? Does the lip of the gas filler neck look
damaged or rusted?
Vapors are escaping...these vapors are routed through hoses, solenoid valve,
and a leak detection pump.
You can visually inspect the rubber vacuum hoses and plastic black lines
under the hood (from the fuel tank) and under the vehicle for cracks and wear,
also look at the Gas
tank, return fuel lines and filler tube for signs of leaking fuel.
You can have a smoke test performed at a shop, but with this code
usually a thorough visual inspection will find the fault --J

Yes.

Brand new OEM cap from dealer.

Not at all.  Looks perfect.  I even wiped it clean with a clean shop
rag.

Thanks, will do.

This happened a while ago, and they did the smoke test and found the
bad cap.  Replaced it, problem gone for months.  Now it's back.
Replacing the cap with the new OEM unit from the dealer didn't help, so
it's either a bad cap (unlikely?) or something else.  I will check the
hoses, etc.
