Crank Sensor on CTD Ram (Info for Tom Lawrence)

I mentioned in an earlier post, the intermittent Crank Sensor errors I was
receiving. The first fault occurred when I installed a Banks Kit. My first
thought was either the Banks kit or something I invertently did that caused
it. It was very intermittent. I double checked everything and found no
faults. Over the past few weeks, it got worse and I ordered a new sensor.
Well, it arrived and I installed it and I can't believe the difference in
performance. The motor has woken up. A performance increase was certainly
not expected. I just hoped I would eliminate the occasional missfire. This
truck goes like hell anyway, but after changing the sensor the engine
response to even light throttle breaks the tires loose in the first 4 gears.
This truck is an '04 long bed Dually with 4.11s and it weghs in at 3480 Kg.
All I can think is that the sensor has been faulty since new. The truck has
10,850 miles on the clock. I'm amazed!

Wow... never heard of that before. I guess somehow the sensor was just
slow in reacting, producing several degrees of retard. Either that, or it
was manufactured in such a way that it wasn't sitting properly, and causing
the same retarded timing. At any rate, I'm glad to hear it's finally fixed.
Are you noticing an increase in MPG, or haven't you been able to keep your
foot out of it long enough to let the tires cool? :)

Yes, I think the mileage is also going to be better, but it is still too
early to tell how much. I did sense that I thought that starting the fuel
event a bit earlier would help, hense my earlier comment about the Tone Ring
mod. However, I did not expect the observed results. Of course it most
noticable at low engine speeds and light throttle, so the mileage will have
to be better. If this change has done nothing else, it has shown just how
short the 4.11s are. I really need 3.60s or 36" tires.
