Ram Diesel HO Fuel Problem.

I have a 2500 Ram with the diesel HO engine. When the tank starts
getting low, the engine will quit if idled down.
Low fuel light does not come on and the computer indicates plenty of
fuel remaining as well as does the tank indicter.
What has occurred is traveling on the interstate and fuel indicating
about an 8th of a tank, I exit on an off ramp and come to a stop sign
and the engine quits. I have to bump the lift pump a few times before it
will start and so long as I have it running at a high rpm it will keep
running.
What pump other than the lift pump, up on the fuel filter, does it have?
Is the tank being pressurized to force fuel up to the engine?
Does the lift pump run all the time?
Could I have an air leak in the tank?

There was for a while a problem with one of the lines from the tank, the
return line, or a vent line getting a crack due to age/abrasion. This caused
all sorts of fuel problems that were hard to find a cause for.

I'd check the lines first, since they are a known problem, and a bit cheaper
than a tank or a pump.

Nope - the lift pump, mounted on the side of the engine, draws fuel out of
the tank. When the truck dies, remove the filler cap, and see if there's a
vacuum (tank vent may be plugged, causing a vacuum to develop which will
fight the lift pump).

Beyond that, I'd say you need to pull the tank module (which is pretty much
an empty shell with a pickup tube), and look for problems in that pickup
tube. The fact that it runs fine until the level in the tank drops pretty
much rules out anything engine or pump-related.
