The oil pressure reads 25 idling and about 45 at highway speeds. Sometimes
running at highway speeds it will show 25 and minutes later it will go
back to 45 lbs. It does not change if you slip it in neutral and rev the
engine. Nothing sounds like low oil pressure no loud valves or bearing
even at start up. Any sugestion as what the problem may be? Thanks

Hopefully it is just the Oil Pressure Switch or the gauge in the dash
that is failing. You might first try disconnecting and reconnecting
the wiring harness from the oil pressure switch and see if the
connection was just corroded or loose. Here is a photo of the oil
pressure switch:

I agree that it is likely the sending unit (it is not a switch because
it does not only have a on/off function)

Had a problem like that on a 98' Dakota. Oil pressure would be about
the same as yours and change going down the road. Put a new sending
unit and it still did the same thing. Turns out it was the oil filter
and it was a brand new fram. went and got a Wix Filter and oil
pressure jumped up to almost 55 to 60 PSI- The highest its ever been.
The Wix oil filter solved the problem- so try a WIX filter.
