After reading about Chris's Liberty I figured I'd take one for a ride. Wife and I go to the local Jeep dealer and guess what? Ya can't buy or register a diesel Liberty in Southern New England. I remember in the 70's when taking a car from Arizona to California and trying to register it there. California required the vehicle to be brought up to their smog standards in order to register it. One of the main reasons they quite putting the current diesel in Liberty was inabilty of it to meet future emission requirements. You gotta remember to consider the source here... :) No, the current diesel will remain in the Liberty - it'll just receive some tweaks that they weren't ready to roll out to be '07-emissions-compliant. They'll have it ready for the '08 model year. that's what I was trying to get him to admit to. one way or the other. I knew the 07 models would not see the CRD. I had not heard that it would return in 08. I wanted you to clarify what you meant by it would be replaced. I've already said that the liberty would not see the CRD option for 07 so how was I wrong? now clarify what your statement meant. You need to reconsider the source here. The current Liberty diesel cannot meet 08 emissions even with mods period!!! They have a different "replacement" engine slated for 08 for it. There will be no tweaks to current one, it will be a different motor. I had read an interview with a DC exec some months ago, who said they'd have the diesel option back in '08... made it sound like it was an engine modification. Now I see that the '08 is a slated re-design for the platform, and other diesel engines are being considered. See? That's just cause you're old. <G> I think every old fart remembers how cars/trucks/farm equipment/whatever used to be and how easy it was to work on them. My favorite old tractor is an "A" John Deere but if I have to work 500 acres I'm sure not going to use one of them by choice anyhow. The new stuff is so much better I can't begin to start. I think the old "A" is my favorite cause that was dad's "big" tractor when I was a kid.
