As I understood it, it takes less refining for diesel then for gas.

As I understood it, it takes less refining for diesel >then for gas. There is a few reasons that diesel is high still. Right now heating oil/ diesel is trading at about 1.92 on futures market and gas for 1.65. Diesel has more road tax that gas does so figure on about 75 cents to 1 buck more for diesel than trade price depending on where you are for tax and distriibution. With gas figure on 45 to 65 cent markup for same depending on where you are. Also they are stiarting to stock pile heating oil for winter now so do not hold your breath looking for cheap diesel because it is about as cheap as it is going to get now and if it is a cold winter figure on 50 cents to a buck more a gallon for it. The days of diesel being cheaper than gas are gone forever most likely. Then there is the cost to remove sulpher which adds 8 to 15 cents a gallon too and all fuel must be low sulpher next year and continue to get even lower in coming years reaching its target of around 5 PPM by 2013 which will add even more cost to fuel in future. BTW I filled up with 93 octane yesterday for 2.39/gal and 87 is 2.19. Diesel here is 2.87. ----------------- TheSnoMan.com

Tom Lawrence - 12 Sep 2006 04:49 GMT > 93 octane was 2.33 today here. 87 was 2.13, diesel still 2.87 Glad to hear it... I'll still take 19MPG @ $2.87/gal (15.1 cents per mile) over 10MPG @ $2.33/gal (23.3 cents per mile - can't run 87, you said so yourself, but even if you could, it's still more expensive to operate). That's why my V10 stays parked, and my diesel handles the commuting duties.

I just got back from 10 days RVing in the Davis, Big Ben, and Guadalupe Mountains. I got 11 MPG towing my 14.5K 5th Wheeler and 19 MPG when I wasn't. That's up from 9 MPG and 17 from my last trip. I guess she's started to get broken in.

Carolina Watercraft Works - 11 Sep 2006 13:23 GMT Where is "here"? I think that's your government's tax making it that high. They need to bring in funds somehow to pay for all those things they give you guys

> Where is "here"? I think that's your government's tax making it that high. Here is in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada. There's a provincial tax of 3¢ per litre + federal tax of 10¢ per litre and then a 6% gst. We are about 50 miles away from oil wells. Your are right, they love to tax us. Canada's population is just over 32 million,(1.3 million are natives, they don't pay tax) We need more people
> They need to bring in funds somehow to pay for all those things they give > you guys Here's some info from Statscan Canada is both an exporter and an importer of crude oil. Canadian companies exported about 63% of our 2005 domestic production, the vast majority of which went to the United States, according to a new report. Can- ada supplied almost 10% of American crude oil needs in 2005. Domestic crude accounts for only about 45% of Canada's oil consumption. Imports represented the remaining 55%, mostly coming from either North Sea countries or the Middle East. Imported oil feeds refineries mostly in Eastern Canada. (STATSCAN)
night_caper@hotmail.com - 14 Sep 2006 18:03 GMT Most likely Canada, about $0.87/litre here ... only road tax, gst (6%) & pst (7%) ... nothing else, so around $3 US per US gallon, was $0.995 a week or so ago ...

They say it is still higher here because we get some of our oil from Alaska. When Katrina hit, our gas prices skyrocketed, and they said it was because none of our oil came from Alaska. Go figure. HD

Down to $2.85 - $2.99 here in central CA and they say it's because sales are down, especially for the Labor Day weekend... Way under projected use.... Maybe if you guys would all quit driving for a while, I could afford gas here!
(It's a little over $1.00 a gallon cheaper in Baja, after the liter/peso conversion)

Ed H. - 12 Sep 2006 00:48 GMT Whenever I hear the news report the highest price for gas is in Hawaii (this morning they report 3.19/gal for 87) I wonder if they've ever been to the California Central Coast - area between Lompoc and San Luis Obispo. I paid 3.29 yesterday for 87 and was glad for it.

I say we have to vote out all incumbents, none of them are worth what we pay them.
