Somewhat OT: Bad karma and social problems

Grrr...

Recently the hubby backed my truck up into a landcruiser, taking out the
tailight and leaving a nice big dent back there.

Thursday, I picked up the truck from the body shop, all fixed.

Today (Saturday) we're trying to get out of a parking spot downtown,
noticed a running fight between Aboriginals.  A fairly heavyset woman is
screaming and threatening a one-legged man on crutches, who is trying to
run away.  Another man, probably her SO, is trying to stop her.  The
woman and her SO look to be indigenous (I haven't room here to go into
the social problems of the Australian Aboriginals), but the guy on
crutches looks to be a working citizen.  Hardly a fair fight, the guy on
crutches was trying to run away.  At one point he looks at us and makes
the universal "phone" sign, but I don't know the number to call the cops
(I only know the emergency #, she hadn't actually touched him yet), and
shrug - but note to myself the police station is just around the corner.

Well, before we can get out of the spot, the fight reaches the truck,
and in an attempt to get the woman away from the guy in crutches, he
throws her up against my truck. After a minute or two the fight moves
far enough away for us to make our escape.

We stop at the police station, and I go in to report the problem - they
knew this particular one-legged guy (actually, there's a lot of
one-legged Aboriginals in town, I have no idea why).  Hubby comes
running in, to tell me they DENTED MY TRUCK.

ARGH!  Long dent, nearly two feet long, in the 'club cab' panel.  Cop
tells me there's nothing to be done - since they weren't specifically
targeting my vehicle, it's not a criminal matter, it's an "accident".
Phooey.  For a few moments, all I wanted to do was go back with a
baseball bat, and give that fat woman (who was causing the whole
problem) what for, and giving her SO a whack for throwing her against my
truck.  I didn't, of course!  We just drove home.

Anyway, the story has sort of a happy ending.  We get the truck home,
and popped the dent mostly out by using a couple of suction cups.  Now
it's more just a little blivet.

BTW, hubby was in the drivers' seat again. Poor guy, he's been having
really bad karma where my truck's concerned (and no, I'm not blaming him
for this!).

Ok.  I just needed to vent.  Maybe I should just cover the truck with
bubble wrap, and ride the bicycle instead...

OPINION:

I can't help with the truck, but for explanation of the Aboriginal
situation, their status is akin to that of the Native American ( Amerind) in
that they've been mistreated over-run, subjugated, to the point of losing
their collective sense of worth by the invaders of their homeland, the white
man.

Living in the Southwest US, I meet many Native Americans and have met, over
the years, a few Aboriginals that escaped the oppression. In both peoples
they just want to live their lives in peace and harmony with their
neighbors, as equals.

Interestingly, the liberals of both nations and Britain tend to overlook the
rights of the native peoples.

Actually, it's a good bit more complicated than that.  The law supports
Aboriginals - over-supports them often, due to Legal Aid - but certainly
the history of what white Australians did to the Aboriginal is worse
than what happened in the US.  But many of individual's woes they
brought on themselves - Plenty of Aboriginals have managed to stay out
of the bottle and make good lives for themselves.  But, as with the
American Indian, too many have decided to hide in a bottle and live off
the gov't, rather than take the harder road of overcoming history and
becoming something more.

Oppression here is more on an individual rather than a gov't basis.
Many Aboriginals have given up and are alcoholics, violent, thieves,
beggars or all four, living in town and causing problems. Due to their
culture, which scorns buildings - they much prefer to be outside - those
individuals' problems are much more on display than any other culture.
One has to work very hard to stay open-minded, and many white
Australians in this town don't seem to be up to that challenge.

When you destroy a group's collective soul, don't be surprised if it "hides
in a bottle". Tell a man he's worthless enough times and he'll become
worthless. The same is true of the Amerinds and the Abos as groups.

A few years ago, I had a chance to speak with a lady of standing in a nearby
Dine' (Navajo) tribe and a Moab resident. I asked the one question that had
never been asked of her people: "If the Whites had gone to the tribal
council and asked to live in peace, share the land, and agree to work out
differences without war, what would have happened?"

She looked me in the eye and said that most likely, if this had been done
with all the Indian Nations then we would still be living side by side and
in peace.

She and I discussed the drinking problem and we agreed it was because the
American Indian is, in many ways, still a second class citizen, still under
government subjugation. And they need to be taught to live without subsidy,
taught they are of worth and the reservations need to be disbanded.

This lady was one of the thousands of Native American kids in the 50's that
had been torn from their parents arms and fostered among the Whites, an
attempt to force white ways upon the Indians. Since she has learned her
people's traditions, laws and helped restore their original language and
often works as the Dine' / White liaison in the local hospital.

I'm currently helping her youngest son get a Ramcharger 4X4 running again by
teaching him things about auto mechanics no longer taught in school. He was
sold an engine that had been converted point type ignition and he knew
nothing about how they worked. The vehicle had been his dad's before he died
from cancer. It's an honor to be asked help someone's son become a man.

you are right.  it was meant to be "man", not "mad", which i think you
knew, but sorry for the mistake.

while were talking again, why is it so important to you that i
killfile you?  you seem to beg me to do that an awful lot.  does it

either way, i have no intent of putting you in a killfile.  i

Yep, to force the Amerinds into American WHITE society, regardless of what
your WHITE  books say.

Try talking to someone that is a child / grandchild of a Trail of Tears
survivor, or one that survived those "fosterings" ( I know 4 personally, 2
men and 2 women) and their stories and experiences are close enought to
reveal the truth.

I am kind of curious about the degradation of threads recently.  It seems
that Christian bashing has become somewhat of a sport lately in the group.
I for one am an unashamed Christian, perhaps not as vocal as Budd, but a
Christian nonetheless.

What useful purpose are we accomplishing when we bait those of faith?  Just
because you are unfaithed,  does not give you a license to criticize those
who are of faith.  Conversely, we Christians should not be overzealous in
our evangelism towards the unfaithful.  The cup is there for those who wish
to partake.

I would just recommend that we all conduct ourselves as gentlemen and women
regardless of our religious persuasion.

mike, with all due respect to a very nice guy, i think that you have
it completely backwards.  what is going on is just the opposite.  the
only reason that it even comes in is because budd has lost his friggin
mind and talks about his christianity as if it were some kind of a
fuckin medal.  budd doesn't talk christianity or for that matter,
religion.  not at all.  if what he says passes to you as religion or
as christianity, then i would simply suggest you read the sh.t he has
said lately one more time and evaluate it against your sense of
christianity.  you can not use the image of God or christianity as a
weapon.  budd is nuts.

I'm not defending Budd, or anyone else for that matter.  We each define our
faith as how it pertains to our lives and how it affects how we conduct our
affairs with others.  What I have noticed lately, and not only in this NG is
that somehow we Christians are "fair game" to those who believe that
religion is a foolish pursuit.  A good example is Craig's sig line...
something about facts vs. religion...

Budd's faith is his alone, my faith is mine alone, your faith or lack of as
the case may be is your own... we should not ostracize others for their
strongly held beliefs.  I guess one approach is to remain silent rather than
goad each other with needless provocations.

If you remember the movie Bambi, you probably remember the rabbit, Thumper.
In the movie, Thumper related what his mother once told him... "If you can't
say nuthin' good, then don't say nuthin' at all"..... we would all do well
to heed Thumper's advice.

again mike, with all due respect, in that case no one would say
anything at all.  the truth is that dissent is as important as
agreement, whether it be religion, politics, sports or anything else.
all that aside, budd is the one you need to direct your comments to.
he pushes this warped sense of religion and christianity on everyone
and a reaction is bound to take place. not because of the religion but
becuase of the warped part.  to ask people to not dispute, to not
disagree is just wrong.

and the world is not filled with bambi's and thumpers.  if it were,
all discussion and all rift would be much easier.  but that is a
childs perspective.  no matter how we envy it, it is not reality and
it does not serve to resolve any issues.
Chris Thompson - 31 Oct 2006 05:00 GMT
well said mike, my problem with the whole religious bickering and the reason
I care not to read these threads that turn into this is, it does no one any
good. lets remember the tolerance that Christ teaches of each other.

here food for thought also.

[Titus 3:9] But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments
and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. Warn
a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have
nothing to do with him.

[2 Timothy 2:14] Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God
against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who
listen.

[2 Timothy 2:23] Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid
arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant
must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not
resentful.

Now, I'm done. May the Lord be with you in your walk.

Seeing as you appear to direct this to me, I'll try to give you my take on
it.

Then perhaps you should speak to budd. He accuses everybody of christian
bashing constantly. I don't see it. I see budd being slapped for some of his
bs, he turns it to christian bashing, I really don't see it as christian
bashing.

Christian bashing is anything anybody say's to budd. He has been accusing me
of christian bashing I think because I found the cartoon mildly funny.

> What useful purpose are we accomplishing when we bait those of faith?

You have absolutley no idea what faith I am. Budd is a friggin idiot,
because he claims to be a christian matter's not to me he is still a
friggin' idiot. Hell Mike he's been baiting all his post's, a person is a
bigot, or a liberal, or a hypocrite or whatever. He bait's for a reason, he
want's attention, sometimes he get's it. Some of the time I find his
foolishness a bit funny. If you want to label that as c-bashing have at it.

And you deny the hateful comments you've made regarding my beliefs?

Mike is right, but you and those like you that choose to bash me for my
beliefs and, consequently, bash my beliefs in the process are too thick
headed, too bigoted, and too intolerant to ever realize what you're doing.

No, we don't know your religious beliefs, but as Jesus said, "By their
fruits (That is what you demonstrate to the public with your actions, words
and lifestyle), you will know them." and all that you say I've called you
is, according to that Scripture, only what the "fruit" you, T-bone, theguy,
Craig and others bear in this forum, and that is showing what you think of
me as a Christian that lives as he believes he should.

It sure is some rotten fruit you're bearing, Roy, and the trees that bear it
will be cut down, according to the Bible, at the end of the Harvest.

And that's not my word, that what the Word of God says about it. Take your
argument up with Him, cause I'm not going to see your posts anymore.

Budd, you don't get it do ya? I could care less what you believe in, what
color you are, if you are gay, how much money you have, what you eat for
supper. It does not change the fact that I think you are a friggin idiot!! I
think you are a pia about your beliefs, I disagree with the way you present
them. so if that's bashing so be it. I really don't care and that's what you
can't grasp, I don't give a damn how you or anybody else people feel's about
it.

No, because a person disagrees and say's so is not c-bashing.

Not at all, Mike.  We're reacting.  We have tried to be civil, asking
Budd to
"calm down" all the way up to "shut the f.ck up".  Now, it is just
plain funny
to watch him go in circles.

I, for one, wish we talked about trucks more.  In fact, I'd be happy to
the point
of a little pink thing popping out if we didn't discuss religion or
politics ... EVER
again.

> I for one am an unashamed Christian, perhaps not as vocal as Budd, but a

Happy for you and wish you the very best.  And I will continue to do so
... until
you try to cram it down my throat.  Then I'm going to give you dose of
your own
medicine ... just like Budd is getting.

It's not a threat, it's a reaction.

> What useful purpose are we accomplishing when we bait those of faith?

Might I suggest that you take a moment and search the archives?  You'll
find
numerous un-christian accusations by Budd.  He can't act like a Nazi
and expect
people to just take it.

I, at one point, had put him in my killfile.  Which doesn't work so
well.  Granted, I
don't get his posts, but I get all the posts that people are responding
to.

Precisely.  Your view is appreciated.  Really.

Sounds good Mike.  We have all tried to put up with Budd and now he is
getting
what he deserves.  When he stops ... everyone else will too.

I'm still trying to figure out how Bud got "Christian bashing" out of
that post.

But I'm with you in this.  I think insulting one's religion, belief
system, or lack thereof is pointless, since I doubt very many people
have switched religions due to some argument - or even reasoned
conversation - they had on Usenet.  Or anywhere else, for that matter :)

that really is the point.  but it gets lost in the constant whining
from budd.  you can't say anything about budd, you can not even take
issue with a single word that he writes, that he doesn't cry religious
intolerance. the only one to ever bring religion into the discussion
is budd.  in that perspective, mike may have a point.  like we have
all said, mike's best point in what he wrote is for budd to leave
religion out of his posts.   like roy, and many others, i have said
and will say again, i don't care what religion or sex or color or
lifestyle anyone choses or is.  i judge people on their quality,
nothing else.  it is on that that this ng has judged budd, and nothing
else.  i am surprised that mike, who i deem to be a pretty good guy,
got caught up in budd's rhetoric, which is just a hair short of
complete insanity.

I just spent some time going over some threads of the past month or so. I'd
invite anybody to take a look at them and point out a instance of c-
bashing. I can certainly point out where budd has accused people of bigotry,
censeorship, c-bashing, you name he accuses's people of it. What I find odd
is that nobody voices any complaint about the degredation of the post's
then. Take a look at the thread entitled "He's baaaaack!" of 9/8/06.

>>> jmc
Budd Cochran - 31 Oct 2006 21:01 GMT
Let me put it in terms even you can understand:

You bash me for my beliefs or for living my beliefs, or as you call it "have
some fun"...fun for you, but insulting to me.

My beliefs are based on the first century Christian church teachings as
found in the KJV of the Bible. For that you refer to me as insane, over the
edge, lost it and probably, to yourselves anyway, names that are profanity
based. All bigoted remarks.

All because I chose to begin living my life as a Fundamental Christian.
Since you bash me and my beliefs, you are also bashing Christianity for that
is why you bash me. Bash me and you bash my beliefs which are Christian.

And, that bashing demonstrates your bigotry toward any Christian that dares
to live as he understands the Bible to say he should live.

Or have you forgotten all the "Little Moron" jokes, the "Queer" jokes, the
"Four-eyes" jokes, ( insert ethnic joke style you preferred) that you told
as a kid . . .everyone a bigoted remark and jest based on another person's
difference from what you consider "normal".

Yes, I told them too, as a kid, but I've tried to rise above that, you
haven't. You do enjoy the perverted pleasure of dragging me into defending
my beliefs by your bashing of them. You're the one that lost it...any sense
of social responsibility, that is

As for my bringing in religious content, show me where that is forbidden by
the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, or the rules of an UNMODERATED
newsgroup. I've brought it in to the discussion only when you clowns start
bashing me for my beliefs, so be a man for a change and take the blame for
your actions.

" I'd rather live my life assuming there is a God, only to die and find out
there isn't one, than to live my whole life like there isn't a God, only to
find out there is." ( Peter Barry)

You missed the crux of my post entirely.  I was not defending Budd... he's a
big guy and can defend himself.  Nor did I get caught up in his rhetoric.  I
merely made an observation that it seemed that some in the NG were using
Christian bashing as a form of sport.  I merely asked that as a group we
consider others beliefs and feelings before we make this a routine practice.

That's all I'm gonna say about that....

I may have something better... Last week a group of guys got together and
ground up horseradish. Everybody has their own little patch, digs up a
bunch, gets together to grind it and can it. Not to mention telling a few
bullshit stories along the way. This stuff will bring tears to your eyes,
open up clogged  nasel passeges and clean out your innerds if you give it an
