I AM HAVING A LOW OIL PRESSURE PROBLEM WITH MY TRUCK,FIRST OFF I AM AN
ASE TECH SO I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING,SO ANYWAYS IT HAS LOW OIL PRESSURE
AT IDLE AFTER ENGINE IS WARM,SO I WENT TO CHANGE THE OIL PUMP,IT
ALLREADY HAD AN AFTERMARKET HIGH VOLUME OIL PUMP IN IT,THE SAME ONE
THAT I BOUGHT,BUT I PUT THE NEW ONE IN ANYWAYS,STILL LOW OIL
PRESSURE,SO I CHANGE THE SENDING UNIT,WITCH WAS LOOKED NEW,SAME LOW OIL
PRESSUERE PROBLEM,AND ALSO I HAVE WHAT SOUNDS LIKE A SLIGHT LIFTER
NOISE ABOVE 3K RPM,LIKE THE LIFTERS ARENT PUMPING ALL THE WAY UP,SO I
PULL OFF THE VALVE COVERS AND CHECK ALL THE PUSH RODS,ALL ARE CLEAN AND
I PERFECT SHAPE,THEN FINNALY THE VALVE CLATTER HAS GOTTEN A LITTLE
WORSE AND NOW I HAVE A CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE CODE,SO NOW IM ALMOST SURE IT
IS THE LIFTERS NOT PUMPING UP,BUT WHAT I DONT UNDERSTAND IS WHY IS
THERE LOW OIL PRESSURE AT IDLE BUT WHEN ABOVE 1K RPM IT HAS 100PSI WITH
THE HIGH VOLUME PUMP,AND NO ITS NOT BEARING CLEARNCE ALL BEARINGS ARE
IN PERFECT SHAPE AND ARE NEW,I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT TO DO HERE I WAS
GOING TO CHANGE ALL THE LIFTERS BUT I DONT KNOW IF THAT WILL SOLVE MY
LOW OIL PRESSURE PROBLEM OR THE VALVE CLATTER,AND NO ITS NOT SPARK
KNOCK,ANY HELP PLEASE????????? THANKS -DANIEL

If you stop shouting, I'll be happy to offer a couple very valid
ideas. You're hurting my ears.

ok so follow basic mechanical engine diagnostic techniques.
SO ANYWAYS IT HAS LOW OIL PRESSURE

ok so at this point have you performed a mechanical oil pressure test using
a test gauge? your ASE so get it out of your box if you havent.
AND ALSO I HAVE WHAT SOUNDS LIKE A SLIGHT LIFTER

if its truly oil pressure related. then it has to be a bearing clearance
(somewhere in the engine), pump, pickup tube, or oil level problem. that's
the only things it could be. you've said you have been in both top and
bottom and all is clean? drain back holes from the lifter valley and heads
aren't stopped up? (odd question I know) no sludge floating around in the
pan? the bearings are prime? what about the crank? have you used plastigauge
to measure clearances?
your digging pretty deep into the engine by opening both top and bottom
without mention of an mechanical oil pressure gauge test.

That sounds like a LOT of work. Which may not be needed. However,
he'll have to ask without shouting.

what sounds like a lot of work? putting a mechanical test gauge on?
the rest of the questions were about observations that he should have
already made because of what he said he already did. granted he doesn't know
how to turn off caps lock, but that wouldn't stop me from asking why he
hasn't run a mechanical oil pressure test. witch was my point. and my only
point. he says he's ASE this isn't anything out of the ordinary. either its
wore out or it isn't, either it pumps or it doesn't.
where else OTHER than a mechanical gauge test would you have him
start???????

My 95 Ram has had this problem for the last year, I put the mechanical
gauge on and it was normal, replaced sending unit...Still the same low
pressure light on the dash, and the gauge drops to zero when its warmed
up...BUT no adverse effects whatsoever in the last year of driving it
like this (knock on wood)

I'd change the oil filter first. Maybe it's restricted and bypassing at 1000
RPM. Then, I'd do a bit of research to see what exact conditions will set a
#1 misfire code. I don't think the computer can see a valvetrain induced
misfire. If the plug and injector is working, how does the computer know
which cylinder didn't fire? But I'm not an ASE tech so I don't know what I'm
doing...
