Two subject's!!

Curious, after reading the gun control thread.

How many of you are legally licensed to carry a concealed hand gun? Not to
transport, but to carry concealed it anywhere the law allows.

Colt's vs. Pat's! After last weeks game with the Charger's, like them or
hate them the Pat's never quit. Hell, the Charger's had advertised the
parade route they would use after winning the SB. Talk about arrogance...

After the Rabbit betting and losing (let me gloat for a minute), before
dinner drink's, dinner, desert, after dinner drinks, the tip, and probably
his mind, he has finally hauled his fat a.s onto the Pat's wagon. I'm sure
we can get him to move in a bit to make room for a few more if ya care to
jump on the wagon.
Anyway, it should be a hell of a game.

not yet but I am going to apply for it soon. I should not have any issue
getting the license either.

on yet another side note, in Kennesaw GA they require every household to own
a gun and have ammo for it. and guess what......crime has dropped since the
law went into effect.

see............

http://www.boogieonline.com/revolution/firearms/laws/us/require.html

<<<< QUOTED TEXT >>>>

If gun-owning is so dangerous and such a cause of social ills, then surely
the most dangerous place in America -- if not the entire planet -- must be
Kennesaw, Georgia, where since 1982 a law has required every household to
have a firearm and ammunition. (Conscientious objectors are excluded.)

Right? Wrong.

There has not been a single reported crime of domestic violence in Kennesaw
since the law was passed. There have been no injuries to children involving
guns since the law was passed.

Furthermore, violence has actually dropped since 1982. Burglaries per
thousand inhabitants fell from 11 to less than 3. There hasn't been a single
murder since 1986. All this despite the fact that the population in Kennesaw
doubled in that time.

Could it be -- gasp! -- that gun ownership might have positive, not negative
effects? That the whole premise behind gun banning is totally wrong? That
other factors besides guns might be the real cause of Fulton County's crime
problems?

I have a CCW, though the state of AZ with the exception of Tombstone is an
open carry state and a permit is not required.

When I bought my Sig 229 (.357Sig) I walked in the store, picked out what I
wanted, gave them my I.D. they called the FBI NICS line, 30 minutes later I
walked out with it.  How's that

It was that. I think the game with the Chargers the week before finally took
it's toll during the last half of the game. The Pat's were on their heels
most of it. Brady and a couple of the other players have said the chargers
game was the toughest they had been involved in. Also 6 of the Pat's had the
flue. But no excuse. They lost!! There is always next year

yeah and i heard some people knocking brady for the loss on sports

That's odd that they want to string up Brady. What about Caldwell with the
2!! dropped passes. Easy catch's. I'd bet he isn't here next year. Or how
about the penalty for two many men on the field? That was big.
Yup, we saw the best teams as well as the best qb's. That was the SB imho.

The colts reminded me of the redskins back when they had the smurfs.  Not real
big but extreemly quick and agile.  It just wears out the big guys by half time.

It's just as well that the Pats lost because they couldn't beat the bears.

i think the colts defense has a chip on thier shoulders.  you can only
tell a pro athlete that he sux so many times before his pride is gonna
get his back up.  the colts defense did suck for the first 3/4 of the
season, but they found new life at the end.  even then, the pats

carry consealed then open, but with being 30 miles from the mexican boarder,
it's pretty much common place to carry.

I think a MA "pistol permit" is equivalent to a license to
carry concealed or not, but I'm not certain.

I had a pistol permit for many years but it has since expired.
(Here in MA you need a pistol permit or firearm ID card to
even buy pepper spray!).

After going through the local, state and FBI background checks
to get the permit, I have become very unsympathetic towards
those claiming the Patriot Act is robbing them of their rights.

Fingerprinted for local, state and FBI, followed by an interview
at the local police station was required, along with $100 for
the application fee (and some more money for fingerprinting
costs).

Had to go through this entire process *again* 5 years later to
renew!

You should have kept it current. Now I think you have to do a class and
course to get it.

I have a hard time compareing a background check to the right's we all lost
under the guise of the PA

I guess it is different city to city in MA. I filled out the renewal form
dropped it off at the PD. They called me a few weeks later to issue the new
permit. Was $100.00, but that's less than $25.00 a year. My atv registration
cost about the same.

I'm still trying to figure out what rights I lost under the PA.
I hear "everyone" (I'm in the very liberal Northampton-Amherst
area of the very liberal state of MA; as you know) complaining
of their lost rights though.

Interesting that some years ago when the Justice Department or
Homeland Security was touring around the country explaining the
PA, that virtually no one showed up at the meetings.  I read
similar outcomes occurred in CA.  Don't know about other places.

Guess people were to frightened about speaking their minds at
the meetings with all those lost rights the PA threw out, that
they didn't bother to attend.

Would think there would be state wide consistency.  I think
they did away with the two types of permit.  One was for
"sport" purposes and the other was for "personal protection".

Always heard the "protection" reason was a rougher process.
I always put down "sporting/plinking" purposes and they didn't
seem to regard me as a threat with a gun!

Mine use to be protection of life and property, now it is any lawfull
purpose. Those come as a "A" and "B" The "A" is for large capacity mags.
That is the one I'd think you want, no limitations with it.

I've got a .22 Ruger single action that holds 6; an Astra .32
auto that holds 7 in the clip; and some Spanish made miniature
.45 Colt auto in 22 caliber that holds 9.

So I probably don't really need a permit for a "large capacity"
purpose.

Thanks

Here's something I ran accross on the "B" permit. A class "B" does not
permit the holder to carry concealed and loaded.

I wish they'd just either outlaw the things altogether
(for what that would be worth!) or just register you
to carry/conceal loaded/unloaded as you wish!  Don't
know why they need to over complicate it so much.

"Back when I was a kid" I remember walking home from
squirrel or grouse hunting with friends through the
small downtown section of Florence (a small town center
of western Northampton right on Rt 9) and stopping off
at Friendly's for some breakfast or lunch.

We'd walk right in with our shotguns/rifles, lean them
in a corner and eat, then walk the rest of the way home.

We'd probably be arrested today!

Thanks for the info.

I live in Kennesaw and I have guns, but I've never been checked. The law
isn't enforced. The police don't go door-to-door to see if you have your gun
and ammunition. Our neighbor city - Acworth, GA has a similar law. Every
citizen there must own a rake. By the looks of things, I don't think they
get checked either.

i think the point of the law is to increase the observed possibility of you
getting shot if you do something wrong. i mean heck would you want to break
into a house in a town that by law everyone is sposed to be armed????

the idea of that one is a good crime deturent eh?

The shoulder huh? You'll be sorry you asked. Had the operation done on the
19th of Dec. Like everything else in my life this became more complicated
once the doc got in. The cat scan I guess didn't show everything. Anyway the
deal is to ice the hell out of it when ya get home, I mean ton's of it. Took
the pressure bandage off 3 days after and put on big water proof band aids
so I could shower. The doc said wait 7-10 days, told him that wasn't going
to happen. Staples came out the 28th of Dec. Started PT the following week,
3 times a week. Have been working on getting motion back, no strength work
as yet. Was told to get rid of the sling yesterday. The sling is a pia but
it makes sleeping a lot easier.
For the first few weeks slept in a recliner, laying flat the weight the arm
pulled the shoulder. Painful. Thing's progress slowly, drives me nut's, but
that's how it is. Not all that much pain, some at first, I ditched the
perc's at day 2 and went to advil. Bunch of ice after each pt session as
well. Ice is really your friend. Doc say's I'll be out of work until the end
of March. It is like being under house arrest. Where it was a otji, the
railroad sends investigators out to spy. Friggin' lame but it is what it is.
All in all, I say go for it. Yup, there is some pain involved but ya get to
have your arm back with full use and no pain.

I took the C/W training with intention of getting it.
But the instructor said that the fees to be legal are greater than the
fine - for a first-time offense in NC. So I dropped the idea of being
legal.

Here in MA it is $100.00 for a permit that is good for 6 years. Caught
carrying without a permit? 1 year in jail.

That's for sure! If you have to use it, make damn sure you cancel his

Last winter I went to a nice little seminar put on by a Toledo law office
about concealed carry. The lawyer that put it on had a licence and stated he
carried most of the time. He talked for several hours about Ohio law and the
liabilities that went with cc. The bottom line according to this gentleman
was that if you had to use your weapon to defend yourself, it's gonna cost
you at least a $30,000 retainer to get a lawyer. If the act you did was 100
percent above the law and you get acquitted, you still have a civil suit
coming at you. And that will be another $30,000 retainer. If you put the bad
guy in the ground, it's family will come after you for loss of
companionship/wrongful death/whatever. If the badguy survives, you'll
probably support him for the rest of his life. Hopefully Ohio law will
change but I'm not counting on it.

Hey Roy, is it you that has the AR?  Just curious as to what prompted you to
buy one?  I had given it some thought, but never really cared for the M-16's
when I was in.

Myself and a couple of others.

A bunch of people I work with were on me to join a club and go shooting with
them. They all hunt and have rifles, I didn't. So I read a bit, listened to
them some, one of them had one and let me use it. After about 5 rounds, it
all sort of came rushing back. not sure if that is good or bad.<G> Anyway I
was real comfortable with it, I know it real well, also it is short money to
buy ammo for. I went with the Bushmaster, it will fire a .223 or 5.56 round.
I added a scope and a bi-pod to it, to sorta reach out a bit.
Look here:  www.bushmaster.com

I wasn't overly thrilled with them years ago. I had one of the early ones
jam, about got me killed. Now, there isn't that problem, either way. I've
put well over 4K rounds through mine without any trouble.

We have a new gun shop in town and I stopped in yesterday to check it out
and they have a few Bushmasters in there.  Had on with the A2 upper, the
expandable stock and about a 5" barrel.  It wasn't bad feeling, nice balance
once I got the stock adjusted right.  They wanted 1250 for it, but man,
flash backs to a M16 came back real quick!  Jamming, double feeds, etc..

Yeah, being an US Army armorer, I have had the (dis) pleasure of playing
with the M16, the A1 and A2 version.  In addition to other fun toys.  I have
just never cared for them in general, but hey when they are made by Matel!

Gotta go for what works for ya. I enjoy it, you can go through a bunch of 30
round mags and not feel liked you have been worked over.
Truth be known, since I picked up the sig 239 the AR hasn't been used much.
Of course the 239 is my ccw so I spend a lot more time shooting it.

you can go through four 30 round clips in no time.  but it is fun.
glad you like the sig, there is a lot of debate in our circles about
it.  it is a good gun but is losing favor quickly.  the glock simply
costs less, breaks down less, comes in every flavor you could want and
is very accurate for a productiion gun.  but the sig is good.  we
still have a couple of sig folks around here, but honestly they have
been dropping to the glock too.

I've had no failures or breakdowns with either sig. What is nice about the
239 is I can go from a  357 sig, switch barrels and fire a 40 S&W. Some
people love Glocks they are like a AK they are all over the place. Guns are
like cars or trucks, there is a seat for every a.s and a a.s for every seat.

well now you got me all confused.  we talking about guns or a.ses?
there is a difference!

i do love the 357 sig.  glock has one too.  a very cool round.

if everything were equal and i could afford to buy all the guns i
wanted, or keep the wife from knowing i had all the guns i wanted, i
would buy a sig.  i think they are a good gun.

i didn't think glock's were that prevelant, but i suppose due to the
cost and quality for the cost, they probably are.  glock is still the
newer kid on the block and they have come along ways.  i think that
there first gens were good guns but the last year or so they have
really got their sh.t together and have refined their mechanics.  i
think the factory said that there have been more new parts and fixes
issued in the last year than all other combined.  maybe it was the
last couple years.  can't remember now.  anyway, i think it is a very
nicely made gun.  traditionalists don't like it because of the
"plastics", but the stuff is strong and light.  has what, 72 parts or
something?  not much to go wrong.  now i still think the 1911 is the
most accuratte and probably the best made gun out there but if
anything goes wrong with the thing, it takes a lot to fix it.  most of
my shooting is actually 9 mm (for the kids) and 40 (with the glocks)
but i think the best round out there bar none is the 45 and that is
the way i'll go in the future.  easier on the gun, the shooter and the
ballistics are very nice.

I have a Sig also, a P229 in .357Sig, with the conversion barrel to .40S&W
and would not trade it for anything.  I have used Barretta's, Glock's, S&W's
and prefer the feel of my Sig.  I haven't had one issue with it, no poor
firing, jams, etc..

bushmaster should run around $950 max.  decent gun.  superior arms,
which is a new small company has them for around $800 and their
quality seems good.  colt is still the best but you will pay the $1250
bill for a colt real easily.  the m4 version, which is pretty much
what everyone is selling, is a much better rifle now.  stay with
decent ammo and the jamming should not be a real problem.  the
armorers that i have all prefer the colt.  not a lot of difference but
the tolerance on the parts seems much better.

Maybe so, but you know how it goes with pricing man, small town, limited
demand, only two or three gun shops in town and they can raise the prices
pretty much as high as the manufacture will let them.  Maybe I will look
into them a bit more, might buy one, but one more along the lines of they
match grade.  I would not mind getting into some comp shooting.  I was damn
good with one in the Army.

I've noticed a trend in government to increase gun registration,
and gun laws. While there are some reducing of laws, it's few
compared to the increase. So, the political wind I am sensing is
that the various levels of government are trying to take
privately held guns away from the civillians (I mean citizens).

I still don't see the big deal about talking about those who legally ccw and
a "trend" to regulate ownership. Go to any "Gun" forum.

Personally, I don't have a problem with person with a violent felony or
domestic abuse conviction being denied the right to own a firearm of any
kind.
