Apparently, insurance company repairs as well as 'total loss' claims are lowballed as a general practice. I just read an article at www.claimsreporter.com that says that you can get on average, the ~$2K difference needed to get a replacement ride (vs. trade-in)... for sure, if it was not your fault. Anyone got any experience with using a local 3rd party appraisal to get more $$ back?

This is typically true when you go to the cut rate insurers. I have
friends with state farm and have had claims in my family where we got
back more than we thought. You pay a little more up front and then it
pays off, like buying a better vehicle. You can call the insurance
commissioners office in your state to make a complaint. Be sure your
adjuster is aware you are going to do that if not satisfied. You can
also write the atty general in your state, insurance companies don't
like that kind of heat.
