can the new 6 speed automatic be retrofitted into an '05 5.9 cummins powered
dodge?

Yes, but its cheaper/less frustrating/less time consuming to buy a truck
with one already in it. You'll need to flash the PCM for a manual, among
other things. Besides, you are too old for one, right?

I'd say its near impossible, since the biggest problems will be software
compatability.
