'03 Dakota CC 60k miles, and the headliner's now starting to come unglued. It's dropping in the middle on the passenger side, and the front's coming down as well. Suggestions on how to fix? ======= ======== . '03 Dakota CC 60k miles, and the headliner's now starting to come unglued. .? It's dropping in the middle on the passenger side, and the front's coming down as well . . ?Suggestions on how to fix? ========= ========= Use stick pins. Use cloths pins. Cut some apropriate lenths of 1/4 inch household trim molding.....wedge it in the side trim pieces..and use it as runners......paint to match. Get a can of cheap sprayglue....poke a bit of a hole in it.....spray it all over....apply pressure. Take it out.....finish take'n it off the back'n.....use a better spray glue all over it.....apply pressure. Take it out, carry it to the upholstery shop. Take the truck to the uphostery shop, let them take it out. ~:~ MarshMonster ~takes a toke......mmmmmm.......good stuff.....can't beat it~ ~:~ My 96 x-cab 2500 was comig undone around the front. Simple and cheap solution, but a lot of effort on my part. I removed the entire interior. Perfect timing. I had wanted to solve my water leak problem so removing the interior was alraedy in my plan. Removing the headliner was easy from there. Upholster shops wanted around 125. I called Dodge who said they use a well known custom place. Blew me away as they do high $$$$ work. I took a chance and called expecting to be laughed off the phone for wanting my headliner redone. Nope. $65 and a perfect match. One day service to boot. Why a high dollar custom place can redo the headliner for 65 while all the standard auto upholstery places wanted twice as much is beyond me. They scraped off the old and installed new. Dodge takes the fabric with foam backing to the edge. This place wrapped it over so it won't hang down even if the glue breaks up in 10 years. I thought maybe the secret place you found might have locales in different states. I don't know until I ask. And after your comment above about gays, I'm glad I don't live anywhere near you. And we have already forgotten about it and moved on. Time for you to do the same. Bob Dodge really ought to be ashamed to produce a truck with so many problems as mine and yours have, but what to do is: take the entire headliner out of the truck, strip off the fabric, go buy some of the new blanket-like micro weave fabric, spray the headliner with art and crafts spray glue (the kind that will dry-- you don't want the tacky stuff), get help from a few friends. Start applying the fabric in the middle, spread it in all four directions and use a paint roller to press it down well --do not over- stretch it! Let dry for two days, turn it over and glue the edges (cut 'em to fit) all the way around. Put the danged thing back into the truck, and yer all done. Did it myself a while back-- looks cool. |
