i dropped my daughter off at school and was leaving when a lady turned into
the school (running late, driving way to fast) and went into a skid on the
ice.  instead of letting her hit me (which i now regret!) i opted to avoid
the collision by leaving my lane.  the abrupt maneuver left ME skidding on
ice as well and in the process i took out two parking lot posts and one
fender.  the ranch hand bumper isnt even scratched, it paid for itself as
the steel posts are sunk in concrete and it only has a little yellow paint
on it.  my fender however, wasnt so lucky.  if i had let her hit me it would
have been on her insurance but since she didnt hit me then i have to either
file an insurance claim on my own insurance or pony up out of my own pocket.

my local dealership wants $227 for a new fender and another $306 to paint
it.  they want $488 to repair the fender i have.  i found one in salvage
thats already white and would bolt right on, but they want $518 for it.  im
seeking a better deal on a white drivers side fender (with or without
cummins logo) to fit a 2005 3500 ram.  any assistance would be appreciated.

......to make it worse the lady who nearly slid into me saw the entire thing
happen but instead of so much as apologizing the just smiled like a jackass
and kept riding.  after having to pony up $600 to pay for the poles i wiped
out id really hate to have to pay another $500 for the fender.
thanks,

No good deed goes unpunished, Nate  :)

Sorry to hear about that...  I don't have any leads for you on a cheaper
fender - just sympathies to offer here.

How 'bout some 3/8" plate, a plasma cutter, and a welder?  That way, next
time, you'll REALLY be ready for her (or her friends...  can't imagine she's
the only one).

Tell us more about the parking lot posts.
$300 each! In concrete, and painted yellow.
Sorta maybe like 6" diameter, heavy walled, concrete-filled barriers?

A bumper that won't deform in an impact like that will transfer quite a
shock to the truck's frame.

steel posts sunk in concrete under pavement.  supposedly its a huge deal to
replace them.

i was literally going _maybe_ 10-12 mph and literally never even felt the
impact of the posts.    i dont know if the posts themselves were filled with
concrete, but im really not concerned about frame damage.

Your truck has a lot of energy at 10-12 mph. Like the Titanic. The fact
that you didn't feel an impact doesn't tell the whole story. An
exaggerated example...

A lightweight truck might bounce off those posts and leave them
unscathed. But the coffee cup flies out of the cupholder.

Add 1000 pound load in the bed, the posts get bent over, but the driver
feels the impact less. Some coffee spills, just a little.

Add 2000 pounds, the posts get flattened, the axle is torn off, but the
truck is unstoppable and the driver feels nothing. No coffee is lost.

The truck's body, and contents, feel the least stress when it's
heaviest. The frame feels the least stress when it's lightest.

The lady who lost control is responsible even though her car and your
truck never made contact. If you were a pedestrian and jumped over the
side of a bridge to get out of her way, and broke your neck, would she
be off the hook merely because it was /your/ decision to jump rather
than get mowed down? I don't think so.

Dunno. I was just thinking sensibly. She lost control, causing you to react.
If she had plowed into you, knocking your truck into a student and
killing him, who would be responsible for that person's death?

BTW, I bet you felt the impact and just forgot. You are suffering some
neck pain now, right?
