lol....ive never understood why so many care about watching strangers chase
a ball around a field and then feel happy if they win or actually
saddened/angry if they lose as if they somehow share in the victory or loss.
how many sports win/loss related riots have you seen?  not directed at you
greg, but to people in general....if people cared as much about what
happened with their children in school today and got involved at least as
much as they do with who is winning what game we'd be a whole lot better off
as a country.  watching grown men chase a ball around is about as irrational
and illogical a thing ive ever imagined.  perhaps if todays professional
athlete cared more about the type of role models they are to children i
could at least try to see some reason in it.  from dog fighting to dealing
drugs to murder, these people tend to be thugs and you worship them and
teach your children to worship them as heros all because because they were
born with the ability to chase a ball around.  it just makes no sense.  i do
not intend to be offensive, and i apologize if my beliefs hurt your feelings
but these are my beliefs.  teach your kids that _good_ teachers are heros.
policemen, firemen, soldiers, and good parents are the real heroes as they
contribute far more to society than making a touchdown.

What Nate said.. and an added "WTF are they thinking, paying those dudes so
much?"

I know it's a marketing thing, but a lineman makes more a year that a friggin'
cancer researcher or college professor..
I also realize that it's a tough game and careers are short and all that, but
several million a year to catch or throw a ball is a little much..

Well, I guess we can do away with all pro and college sports. Christ knows
we shouldn't have any break from what is going on in the world today. I
suppose we all should sell our toy's, trucks, campers, rv's, guns, fishing
gear, tv's all of our toys that are used for enjoyment and sit and ponder
wtf we can do to solve the worlds problems.

No, nobody hurt my feeling but lighten the f.ck up will ya. I'm having a
tough time as it is.<G>

perhaps if less emphasis were placed on college sports and more were placed
on academics our students would be so far behind japanese, chinese, etc.
students.

im not asking anyone to give up anything, im only expressing my opinion that
may or may not be worth anything to anyone.  i had my tonsils removed a
couple days ago and im just sitting here rambling incoherently anyway in a
percocet induced haze, ignore me.  there is nothing wrong with pointless
entertainment value....it just frustrates me every time the biggest news of
the day is who won a dang football game...._especially_ when we have troops
in harms way, a failed health care system, a failing economy, and a
downright pitiful educational system.  there is no more moral fiber in this
country, very few role models for our children to look up to....but hey,
that was some game.

Agreed. But then you would have to have a administration that would be
willing to pay teachers more than the pay that the guy who picks up your
trash recieves.

While we are on the education system here's part of the problem. Since we
moved to FL my wife has been doing substitue teaching at different school
around the county. A few day's ago she was called to cover a music/ band
class, I know real mind bending stuff. Anyway she walks in there is zilch
for a lesson plan to follow but she figures the kids might have some idea
anyway. The class files in, 90 friggin' kids14 -16 years old  That's right
90. HTF do you teach a class that size filled with teenagers? Two minutes
into the class a fisfight breaks out on the other side of the room, total
horror show. Welcome to a underfunded education system. This country is too
busy sticking it's nose into every other countries issues to do anything
about the problems here.

Ya really want to get me going how about this.

The f.cking DOD for about 6 months was disallowing PTSD claims from CV's who
had done 3 tours. The DOD say's it was a pre exsisting condition. That has
since changed, but thes guy's and gal's get f.cked over about every time
they turn around.

Ya Nate, I'll watch the super bowl and friggin' enjoy the hell out of it. It
for a few hours takes my mind off the elected a.s holes who are running this
country.

while i agree that teachers are underpaid, that does not excuse them from
doing their best.  i feel that it is tenure and not the low compensation
that has ruined our public education system.  you end tenure, youll see a
turn-around in public education in this country.  with tenure we have people
teaching our children who dont even have to try because they cannot be
fired.  there are some _great_ teachers out there, but sadly they are the
exception and not the rule.  we have given way to much power to the teachers
union.

and thats just fine sir, im glad you found some great entertainment.  i
watched terminator 2 last night and i enjoyed the heck out of that

That's the same drum beat that has been going on for years. You get what you
pay for.. WTF is going to spend money to get a few degrees, a few years of
their life and make less than the damn trash collector? I've watched my wife
spend in the area of $20 a week for stuff that the school can't supply, or
won't supply, or ran out of. You miss one thing Nate. Every school
departmentnegotiates a contract with their teachers. That is a two way
street, so please no crying about the powerful teachers union. I belonged to
some very powerful union's while I was working.and the bs that my wife
brought home from the "powerful teachers union" a half assed HR could turn
them upside down.

I note that you blew right by the super over crowded classroom. They don't
even take attendence. When this country decides it is serious about
educating our kids rather than baby sitting them or running a day care maybe
then things will change.

negotiating a contract is in not way related to tenure.  please justify
tenure to me.  why does a teacher deserve to be employed even if they do a
piss poor job?

sorry, im not really at my best.  im eating pain killers like m&m's trying
to cope with the tonsillectomy and and pretty numb all over......but doin'

ah heck, those late 80's action movies are some of the best.

Here's the rub. Most start out thrilled to teach but after a bit with the
kid's, parents, administration, lack of supplies, lack of support, and joy
is soon gone with a large number of teachers.

>> please no crying about the powerful teachers union.

Still beating that drum huh?  How do you think tenure is in the contract? It
was negotiated in. So it can be negotiated out if the problem is so great,
but doubtful that is the case. Okay, in most sytems you don't reach tenure
until 3+ years. I would think that in three years a principal could
determine if a teacher is any good or not.

Also most systems teach to a test that must be passed to graduate. Low
numbers mean that the administration as well as the teachers are in the
sh.t. But the deal with teaching to the test is that kid's learn what is on
that test and nothing more. Of course now that we have mainstreamed kid's
with behavior or other more advanced problems it has become a real mess. My
wife was called for a job one night last week, 3rd grade. The special
instruction's were " must be able to lift 70 pounds and assist student in
bathroom"  She declined the job. Now think about it. In a class room of kids
this poor kid has to go to the bathroom, the regular teacher has to stop
teaching to the test and carry this kid and put him on the toilet, then
clean him/her up when done. Tell me more about tenure You hang all the
problems of education on tenure and unions, talk about having you head in
the sand.

yup.....after gaining tenure they just stop caring to try.  not all, but
most.

> in most sytems you don't reach tenure until 3+ years. I would think that

not if it takes them awhile to become disgruntled as you stated above.  if
teachers do a good job, why do they need tenture?  tenure protects weak
teachers just like the union protects weak workers.  strong workers dont
need a union to succeed, and neither do good teachers.

how is tending the special needs of one special child related to tenure?  it
isnt.  remove tenure and teachers have to do a good job to keep their job.
why does a teacher deserve job protection if theyre doing a poor job?

now you _are_ talking older movies.  the best ones from that era would have
to be the dirty harry series....and a few of eastwoods older westerns like
good bad and ugly.  those were movies.

You have part of the problem. WTF is a special needs child doing in a
regular classroom. They put 5 sped kids in a regular class and the teacher
spends all her time tending to those 5 kids to the detriment of the rest of
the class.

So I guess you are hanging the problems with the education system on tenure
and teacher unions. If that is the case it is foolish for us to go any
further with it.

The Italian westerns were good. Also most of Sam Elliots stuff was fun as
well.

Sadly Nate, much of that is due to the attitude of the students and their
parents.

Because all of the things that you mentioned are sadly the way of this
country and don't change from day to day so what exactly are they going to
report on it that most of us don't already know.  The news is also a
business and sales are what counts and something exciting to many will sell
much better than the same old sh.t that we hear about every day.  Now if
something happened that could and would change that, then I can bet it would
take priority over somethong like a football game but that sadly hasn't
happened and probably never will.  Our attitude and economy is in the toilet
and will stay there until the people take responsibility and take action and
we both know that will never happen.

If at first you don't succeed,  you're not cut out for skydiving

Nathan W. Collier - 09 Feb 2008 17:30 GMT
the tonsillectomy has turned into a massive throat infection which has
resulted in heavy antibiotics and even heavier pain killers (up to 10mg
percocet now instead of 5).  while i do enjoy escaping the unbelievable
pain, i HATE being a complete and total zombie.  i dont know how junkies can
possibly LIKE this feeling.  they must be trying to escape pains ive never
imagined.  ive been strung out on this crap for about 9 days or so now and
cant wait to be lucid again.  it really sucks not being able to feel your
little daughters kiss on your cheek.

....anybody else in here ever had their tonsils removed when they were 30
years old or older?  the PA i saw yesterday (roughly 40 years old also) said
she had her tonsils removed last december and despite being in the tonsil
business and dealing with it every day she never fully appreciated what its
like until going through it herself.  she says i have about another 3-4 days
of mysery and can hopefully come off the dope then.  i really hope thats
true.  she says my tongue will feel numb for at least another week or so and
that i should have actual taste back in 2-3 more weeks.

if i had it to do over again i still would of had them removed.  they have
always been a problem for me and in fact i had to redo much of army basic
training due to tonsilitis when i was 17.  just last month i thought i would
have to intebate myself with a piece of plumbing pipe just to be able to
breathe.  nothing like waking up at 4am being strangled by your own tonsils.
this happened 2-3 times a year every year but the doctors didnt want to
remove my tonsils.  they say it was to avoid what im going through now, but
i think it was to guarantee return business.  :-)

so anyway i guess ive rambled enough.  thanks for the distraction guys, it
helps to pass the time.

Nope, I'm keeping it, and the sig239 and Sue's S&W 357. The sig226 and the
