Also, I'm assuming from what you say, the truck will run fine otherwise?

That 4.10 does not help. He has to turn higher RPMS to go the same speed as
everyone else.
On my 2000 2500 with 3.73 rear end I got 21 highway.
With the stock 3.53 was nearly 25MPG

It sometimes doesn't set a code. It can run fine otherwise.
