my check engine light came on suddenly-
have a 99 dodge caravan 100,000 miles
put a quart of oil in-(was low)
transmission fluid is fine...
probably take it in later this week-see if there is a problem

There are two possible ways to get the trouble codes without a scanner.
First possible way:
Start with the key OFF
Turn the key ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON
It should now display the trouble code(s) on the odometer readout.
Second possible way:
Start with the key OFF
Reach up and push and hold the Trip and Reset buttons.
Turn the key to ACC position (first click between lock and run)
Continue holding the buttons for 5 seconds.
Now release them and you should see the trip mileage instead of the
odometer.
Push the trip button and the odometer should display the trouble code(s)
Once you have the code you can look it up and see what the problem is.

That's good. Let us know what happens when you do that. <g>
