Water Leak

I just purchased a 96 Dodge Neon Expresso for a winter beater car and I
noticed that there is water in the trunk where the spare tire is and the
rear driver side carpet is wet. I haven't had it long enough, (2 days) to
really take a good look at it. Does anyone know if this is a normal leak in
neons or is this something totally random that I will have to investigate?

Thanks
Ryan

A "normal leak"?  WTF is that?

You didn't think to check that stuff before you purchased the vehicle?

Neons are known for the trunk leaks. It is from the sealing around the
taillights. Dry out the trunk and silicone around the entire rear taillights
and that should fix the problem. There was a TSB about it in Canada.

The water leaks in normally thru the rear tailites- take them out and using
some RTV run a bead around the foam and reassemble,

I'd say the loser is the one who is stupid enough to buy a vehicle without
noticing it's got a trunk full of water!  LOL!

OK, so I might or might not buy this car from you.  Before I make my
decision I will need to hose it down for about an hour to check for leaks.
You don't mind, do you?

The original post gave the impression that the water was in there already,
as he stated he'd only had it 2 days and didn't mention rain.

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH WATER LEAKING INTO MY TRUNK WHICH REACHES THE FLOOR
OF MY BACK SEAT.I HAD IT TAKEN CARE OF A WHILE BACK AND NOW STILL THE SAME
PROBLEM. I DON'T GO IN THE TRUNK OFTEN , NOR DO I SIT IN THE BACK SEAT SO I
WASN'T AWARE OF IT AGAIN UNTIL I NEEDED THE SPARE TIRE THE OTHER DAY. THIS
SUCKS!!

i don't know if anyone checks this message board anymore but that that i
would give it a shot. i just purchased a 2005 dodge neon and am
experiencing the same problems. i noticed that after some heavy rains that
my floor in the backseat is soaking wet and i had a pool of water in with
my spare tire. i went to the dealer and they said that my rear windshield
wasn't sealed properly and that they would need to re-seal it. since i
still have my warranty it would cost me nothing which was good news. i'm
having it re-sealed tomorrow so if anyone wants to know what happened or
if it solved the problem you can email me at twixieann@yahoo.com
