HELP!!! BACK IN THE DOGHOUSE!!!

The van died!!! We gotta have 2 vehicles!!! OK...deep breaths...anyway...

    Was running fine all day, probably 120miles today. Had to run my 13yr
old Boy to the Doc(He has Influenza A(yippy)), we stopped by the store and
when we went to leave, it started like usual(which is great), ran a few
seconds then sputtered and died! I opened the door, turned the key off then
back on and couldn't hear the fuel pump. Could hear the relay click a second
or two after the key was turned to on like normal priming before start. If I
turned the key on for 5 sec then off and repeated a few times, she would try
to start, then nothing. I tried that a couple times and got little more than
a couple cylinders to pop then she would just spin. When it died it didn't
stop suddenly, just petered out...

   Fuel pump, right??? Was replaced somewhere from 110-140K, now has 220K.
I don't want to drop a half full tank only to not have that the problem. Is
there a 'valve' to see if there is pressure on the fuel rail?

   '92 Caravan 3.0 BTW...

I think these have Schrader valves on the fuel runners in the engine bay,
but I'm not sure. If they do you can check it with a pressure guage. But
if you're not hearing the pump whirring, I'd bey that's the problem!

 No fuel test port for that vehicle, you would have to tee it in,Get some
carb cleaner/throttle body cleaner and spray into the throttle body while
trying to start, if it starts at least you know it is fuel.......then I
would test out the 12v/ground circuit.....Was that an after market pump only
you installed before or a mopar fuel pump module..

   It was put in before my Woman and I got together and she is vehicle
illiterate. She says the fuel pump. Its in tank right? Where is the fuel
pump module and how do I know if IT went bad?

Ok, when I say fuel pump module I mean the intire pump assembly
(wires,sending unit, and all)  that is located in the tank. Its called a
fuel Pump Module, Or you could buy a cheap pump from one of the aftermarket
suppliers and dissassemble the Mopar module and install the cheap pump and
have problems down the road again, That is what I was asking

   Gotcha! I am thinking it is getting warn and might have developed a dead
spot. I went out and the fuel pump popped right off! I put a secondary
ground just in case. I plan on replacing it next month when I can get a shop
and hoist and a near empty tank. I am also gonna replace the original timing
belt that has 220K on it.

Installing an aftermarket electric pump may not work.  I know a few people
that tried this and nothing but problems.  Electric fuel pumps are good at
pushing pressure but do not have good pickup, that is why they are located
in the tank.
Plus if you leave the old pump in the tank and install a new inline electric
pump you will be pulling through the old pump unless you modify the tank.

   I would never install an inline pump with a dead in tank pump. I never
even made the reference to doing that! I do however need to do the pump
tomorrow. Wouldn't start to go to Church this

Before pulling the pump use a test light to see if you are getting power.
If there is a relay or a fuse check it..  The pump will on run for a few
seconds unless the vehicle starts.  If you have no power to the relay then
check and make sure iginition switch is working properly.  Check fuel cutoff
relay.

If everything checks good then pull the pump.  Change fuel filter also
whil;e you have the system down.

   Filter assy replaced, new harness(new plug has a different plug than
original), new filter, 2 new 3" pieces of fuel line... Runs like a top!

   I disassembled the old pump before getting a new one and it fan fine the
first couple burps of juice then it was dead...till I shook it then it took
off again. Dead Spot!
