Got a 87 caravan, with the 3l V6. its having some running problems.

from cold, it'll often just die at idle. has to be revved up a bit to
get it going.

When it running, especially when warm, at low levels of throttle,
it'll sound like a lot of misfires, (a rappid popping sound) and have
no go at all, letting off, or pressing down the accelerator will mae
it go. it doesn't ahve any problems over 1/2 throttle, just this 'dead
zone' around 1/4-1/3 throttle, and usually only at a standstill, or
accelerating out of a corner. At busy intersections, i've taken to
flooring it, and to hell with the tyres.

it had an oil change about 1100 miles ago, and has castrol 10W-30. i'd
read somewhere that an engine which hadn't had an oil hcange for a
while would act like this, but its not made any difference. its the Se
model, if that makes any difference.

Sounds like a secondary misfire, when is the last time it was tuned up, with
a good set of plugs and wires?

Dunno. Got it end of jan, not had much time to do a lot of work to it,
just thermostat, filters, some other assorted small stuff. Any
particular brand of plugs you prefer?

I notice you didn't mention a 'check engine' light--does it light up
during starting (bulb could be burnt out--it's an '87).
A tune up could be in order--pretty easy to do on those--plugs &
wires, cap & rotor.  Put anti-sieze or loctite on screws holding the
dist. cap down--I had one snap the screw off trying to remove it.
I'd be interested to know if it has any codes, i.e. TPS code since it
has problems at certain throttle positions.
Cycle the key to get the codes & repost
(on, off, on, off, on).

Yeah, i posted the codes a while back, and you replied then, i was
asking about the mpg from it. i found that from a full tank, i get
about 400-ish miles at 65mph, with AC on carrying 4 people (drove from
atlanta to tallahasse and back last week, to help a friend pick up a
63 galaxie)

it was showing a 12, 15 and 17 a month ago, but i've now replaced the
thermostat.

Let me run outside, and check again.
*few minutes later*

ok, just checked, and I'm getting a 12, 15, and now a 21 as well. And
yes, the Power loss light does come on, usually when accelerating, and
at about 35-40mph, not when there is any hesitation.. driving me nuts.
